LEXANDRIA, Va. — Two days after American voters spoke, Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen made their decision final when he conceded his Senate battle to challenger Jim Webb, officially completing a Democratic sweep of Congress. Allen conceded the race at 3:15 p.m. ET during a press conference Thursday in Alexandria, Va. "Sometimes wins, political or otherwise, can blow the leaves off branches or even break limbs but a deep-rooted tree … will regrow in the next season," Allen said during his concession speech. The voters of Virginia have spoken, he said, "and I respect their decision."

I thought the stunt with Webb's book backfired.

Allen is a good guy but proved he's not ready prime time.

Will there be any pornography included in future legislation? Virginian voters, how could you?

Allen's a good guy, probably too nice. Still scratching my head how he could be tackled from behind on the "Maccaca" thing. Seriously, I didn't even know what the word meant or had connotations of meaning.

Allen's mother was French-Tunisian (or Tunisian-French or whatever) and where was she was raised, it was a racial slur. I have a hard time believing it's a coincidence that Allen came up with the word out of nowhere like he and others have claimed, when it would have been commonly heard by his mother. That's a pretty big coincidence.

Allen was the biggest conservative name between McCain and the '08 nomination. Prepare to swallow hard as you cast your vote against Hillary.

You mean, those 7,200 citizens of Northern Virginia who sided with Webb?

Seems the 'Rats can only win when they play dirty, and even then, they can barely pull off a victory. BARELY.

Pathetic.

What's disgraceful is the idea that somebody who has served in the military is automatically immune to criticism.

Webb's adult son volunteered for the military. I'm not sure how that really has much of anything to do with Webb. I respect HIS SON for leaving college to serve his country, but that neither adds nor subtracts anything from Webb.

Webb's service to Reagan is nowhere near as flowery as you make it, and there are a plethora of sources to indicate he wasn't exactly well-liked in his post.

Webb won primarily because of the macaca incident, which served to further fuel the Washington Post's jihad on George Allen. Webb ran on no particular issue and his campaign was rather dull and boring - commercials consisted mostly of "George Allen = George Bush" and the like.

Also, having read hundreds upon hundreds of fiction books from all genres, I have never come across a book that contains a description of pedophilia or incest (let alone both). When you put your name to the cover of a book that contains that, you open yourself up to criticism. Deal with it.

If you're still going to bury your head in the sand about this, please show me where people criticized Webb for his military service.

I have a very hard time with someone who only 2 years ago was trashing John Kerry and now embracing him, a hard time with someone who called the Clinton administration one of the most corrupt then seeking the endorsement of Bill Clinton.

Then, someone who pretends to speak for Ronald Reagan.

Please tell your Republican Party that the Conservatives in Fly-Over Country are totally disgusted to see Senator George Allen refuse to demand a Re-Count.

We have watched challenges over machines, Dead People Voting, etc. in Ohio for years whenever the Dems Lose. Now, we see a Republican Senator toss in the Towel without even taking advantage of his automatic re-count. Are Republicans Stuck on Stupid or just too f'n lazy to fight?????

We are going to remember this lack of fight for many years into the future when the Republicans ask for money and ask for us to work in the 72 hour campaign push, Serve as Poll Observers for the GOP, etc., etc., etc.

Totally dismayed and Disgusted in OHIO.

Explain to me once more: how does having Webb (D) in the Senate help us?

Webb sat back passively when Kerry slandered the troops as stupid and unmotivated. Would you care to preach to me again about Webb's sense of honor?

Despite a life of distinguished and honorable service the majority of FR tried to deceitfully slander the guy as pedophile.

I never saw anyone call him a pedophile. He did write some filthy scenes in his books, unless you're suggesting he hired a ghost writer. I don't buy that crap at the bookstore or in the voting booth.

I don't think he's a pedophile, just a scum-sucking piece of sub-human filth, traitorous, treasonous piece of monkey vomit, democtat liberal. That's all.

Okay, look at this way...

S.R. Sidarth, the student of Indian heritage who was called a "macaca" by Senator Allen, is from the University of Virginia.

(I know Mr. Sidarth personally from the Engineering School and from high school, as we both went to TJHSST in Alexandria. He can be annoying sometimes, and I think he must have done or said something really annoying to have prompted Senator Allen to call him a "macaca.")

Mike Stark, the man who was involved in scuffles in Charlottesville and Winchester while harassing Senator Allen and his supporters, is a University of Virginia student.

Plus, there are those "allegations" of racism from former classmates of Senator Allen from the University of Virginia.

The majority of students at the University are from Northern Virginia (mostly Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun).

Plus, Charlottesville is a liberal hotbed to begin with.

The University of Virginia has a small but vocal and rabidly left-wing minority of students and faculty (almost all in the fluff departments in the College of Arts & Sciences). I should know. I'm a student there (on leave now).

We had problems last year with a group demanding a "living wage" (except the increase they wanted was 25-30%) despite the fact that the University pays the best wages and offers the best benefits in Central Virginia.

Most students don't care as they are too busy studying, drinking, partying, or any combination of the above.

The torpedo that sunk Senator Allen's campaign originated in Charlottesville, imo.

A couple people I know know or knew him personally. He was a womanizer at one point, but seems to have gotten over that.

Look, he wrote that crap and it had to come from SOMEWHERE in HIS head! That makes his a sleaze, even if he wore the EGA! You think that EVERYONE who came out of 'nam was a saint? You better think again!

You want to talk about the medals?

Go ahead. John Kerry had some, too!

If Webb was such a "great, warm and gentleman", then why didn't HE chastise the media for all the uncalled for "bigot" slams on Allen? Webb was bought and paid for by Bill and Hillary with the promise of bigger things in her administration.

***

Because we love our state and country more than we hate any "sex stuff" that Jim Webb wrote in works of fiction?!?

Not proud of who we elected, but happy to see Bob Taft go to the Ash Heap of History. Taft has been even worse than a typical RINO. He has taken the state down the Toilet during his terms in office.

Sad to say, but The new Dem could actually be a step up.

Read Webb's platform. For a "war hero" he certainly sounds exactly like all the other traitorous spineless liberals. His "issues" read like they're piped directly from the DNC, and they probably are. He's hypocrite based on his own website, not to mention his past. He claims he fought in Vietnam so that the Vietnamese could enjoy the same freedoms we enjoy. Of course, I suppose Iraqis don't deserve that. Not to mention that the countless dead terrorists in Iraq somehow make him think that Iraq is not a part of the war on terror. I suppose that's true, what with terrorism worldwide being focused....oh, that's right, IN IRAQ.

I could go on and on. The guy is a terrible candidate and I really don't care what he did 30 years ago.
