i think Specter had lymphoma. If properly treated, that seems to be more survivable(5+ years) than leukemia. This is bad stuff. Prayers to the Sen. and family.

There are a couple of despicable militant Wellstone-Memorial-types who are trying to score political points about stem cells & socialized health care.

I don't know about Sen. Specter, but commentator Ed Bradley just died of leukemia.

Sometimes I wonder about all of these drug treatments, esp. for cancer. Seems they make many people much worse. On the other hand, when diagnosed with a fatal disease, you will do anything.
Who *are* those people? Gotta be imposters. The majority of them wished him well. The world is upside down for sure.
There are at least three or four versions of leukemia, and some diseases that are quasi-related to leukemia. Survival rate and success of treatment apparently depends on what form of the illness you have and probably whether it was caught early. I don't know if medicine can actually cure the disease, but I believe they can put some patients into long-term remissions. I know of one woman whose remission lasted more than 20 years. My mother, however, had multiple myeloma, which is related to leukemia -- survival rates are rather low for that illness (2 or 3 years at best), but my mother had other health problems, so she did not survive more than a few months.
That all said, I hope the Senator's treatment is successful and I wish him a speedy recovery and God's blessings on him and his family.

It may be that he is not sufficiently well known to draw a crowd. Or, it may be that the moderators have some way to delete messages without them showing up as "deleted messages". At any rate, if you want to see the real personality of these organisms, look at the thread where Laura Ingraham is diagnosed with breast cancer. Elizabeth Edwards, wife of the Dems VP candidate, who also has breast cancer, stepped in to try her hand at mob control.

He has acute Leukemia. It can kill you very, very quickly. My sister was diagnosed with acute Leukemia, on June 27 several years ago. She died 2 1/2 weeks later.
The chronic form can last for years. I've never known anyone to survive the acute form. The doctors had orginally told us that 1/3 die from the disease, 1/3 die from the chemo and 1/3 survive. We believe the chemo took our sister. Gosh how we miss her!!!!
I hope the senator does indeed beat this terrible disease.
