"It's not so much that we lost, it's how huge the loss was."

In the greater scheme of things, our losses are below average for a 6 year midterm. Regain 7 House seats and 2 in the Senate. Does that sound insurmountable? Absolutely not, especially considering that most of the Democrats elected ran as conservatives. We here in NC know a thing or two about Democrats running as conservatives ... John Edwards, who immediately went to the left of Ted Kennedy and stayed there. He knew better than to run for reelection.

Did anybody notice how the DBM kept referring to it as "taking BACK the House", or the "Democrats RETURNING to power" as if it rightfully belongs to them and the last 12 years have been nothing but an aberration?

I know and if we rebound from this "smartly", it wouldn't be impossible to retake all in 2008.

But we've got to do a lot of soul-searching, brain-storming and act sensibly, not emotionally.

What fascinates me about the election is how close the races were. A lot of Republicans lost, but many of them by the narrowest of margins. Look at VA, over 2 million votes cast and the winner prevailed by only 7,500.
