There wont be any suspense on this, as everyone will soon discover.
Bolton will be confirmed, and quickly. Bush traded Rummy for Bolton, and it has been planned for some time.
Rumsfeld, you are a patriot of the first order.

That's what I'm wondering about - there's probably some kind of deal in the background to allow this to go forward.... will Chaffee even show up? Maybe he's off searching for his next job (or maybe he doesn't need one - doesn't he come from some family money?).

Bolton could serve, but I heard it would be unpaid. I'm sure Freepers would be happy to pay his salary.

"Bolton has stood up to those who want to hobble America"
That's precisely why the Rats don't want to confirm him.

Bolton is worth fighting for. I cannot see how the RATS can discunt his abilities over the past year with a straight face.

Could not the deal have been made with Chafee, not Rummy?
Chafee has just found himself unemployed in January. If he votes Bolton out of committee, maybe the President will throw him an ambassadorship to some south sea island.

Chaffee said he's against Bolton because he's too supportive of Israel.
