As a white guy who graduated from a historically black university, I have this to say about racism:
Racism is far more prevalent than most whites believe... and far less prevalent than most blacks believe.
I have heard more vicious racial comments by blacks to other blacks than I have ever heard from other white people toward blacks.
True, and the real racism gets lost in all this 'everything is racist' attitudes because people begin to believe that everything is some kind of ploy. I get frustrated and angry that so many who really suffer racist actions against them have their experiences relegated to a 'oh just another one of those'
Racism is far more prevalent than most whites believe... and far less prevalent than most blacks believe.
As a black woman who is currently attending a racially diverse college, I have to say I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT STATMENT! I have a girlfriend who blames racism if it rains on her new hairdo. I hate to say it, but the truth is most black people are racially sensitive. It is hard not to be.
Maybe so. But in my mind "racism" officially became a non-issue some years ago when I overheard two well-dressed black men on a train in metro New York having a conversation about a crime spree in their neighborhood -- and they agreed that "lynching the b@stards" (that's a direct quote) was the only solution to the problem.
