Here's a little ditty to add to the conspiracy/coverup theory. FWIW, I was chatting with someone recently who said that the HAARP project had something to do with TWA 800. Supposedly, someone who worked at HAARP at the time said that they had really screwed up. What that means, I don't know.
The internet is truly amazing. I decided to search for any information that included TWA 800 and HAARP. What I found is basically what this person was saying.

IF HAARP had anything to do with it, it wouldn't be so surprising that it would have been covered up due to classified information.

Just a thought here - and this may be pure tinfoil - but consider this:
1) The plane was shot down by Libyans.
2) Clinton did not have the stomach to go to war
Fast forward to 2001:
1) 9-11
2) U.S. to Libya: We have the evidence to prove you shot down TWA-800. We also have the political capital to clean your clock unfettered and send you to a fiery grave.
3) Ghadafi (crapping a brick) to U.S.: I'll give up my nuclear program and we'll call it even.

when I was in my USMC/VA retirement classes at San Diego, there was a Navy diver in there and he told me that he dove on the recovery site and had orders to move & hide all missle parts that were recovered underwater & moved to a site away from the crash site. I did not believe that our goverment [at that time] would kill somany of our fellow citzens. But then there was Waco, Ruby Ridge, & Ok. City [which I still believe that the goverment had some hand in it]

One thing I remember about twa 800, was that fact that John Cardinal O'Connor was on hand to comfort those who had lost loved ones, when Clinton said he was going to come and visit, the Cardinal said that if Clinton showed up, he would leave.
The only way that SOB got into St Patricks was after the death of Cardinal O Connor.
