Unfortunately, he will now forever be viewed as the person who lost the Senate for the Republicans.

ohfercryinoutloud...you act as if he was the ONLY FRICKIN' REPUBLICAN TO LOSE ON TUESDAY....

George Allen did not LOSE the Senate. Sure, he didn't run a perfect campaign. But he was targeted a long time ago and ran against the forces of hell.

The Republican party as a whole lost the House and the Senate because we've lost our way. After our win in 1994 we never learned to govern. We've abandoned our princples, tried to run from the squishy middle. And now we've seen our President abandon us.

Sure, Allen was a part of our losing Senate control.

But to lay it all at his feet is ludicrous.

I agree and interestingly enough I just posted something rather similar on a Delaware forum. One of the forums I mentioned where the Dems have shown more class in regard to Allen's loss than many of those posting on Free Republic.

Yes, but he was the only one who threw away what should have been an easy victory.

If your team needs to win one game out of three and they lose all three -- twice to tough competition and once to some pathetic scrub team -- is there going to be a bit of difference in the post-game locker-room speech in that last case?

I am heartsick over this. Losing Allen and Santorum is very bad for the GOP and especially the nation. Got my jihab all ready ;)

But VAGOP does have to look at how we had two easily winning candidates in a row, Kilgore and Allen, who were way up till the August before their election(s), candidates people wanted to support, who then proceeded to lose.

Some advisor has to teach our candidates to stop digging when the first thing goes wrong ... just ride it out, make adjustments, and shut their mouths. Any ideas on how we compensate for the blue tide taking over Fairfax?

As always, Corin, you've been enormously helpful to VA FReepers following VA campaigns. Thanks for your great work.

IMHO we lost the Senate the day Coleman lost out to Dole as head of NRSC and our leadership in the Senate did not stand with Dr. Coburn on cutting pork and were spineless when it came to Dem attacks. Cannot believe we lost Allen and still have Warner.
