I'm putting out the name Mark Sanford for POTUS to see what Freepers think of him. So far I've gotten positive feedback except some think he is an unknown. He just won re-election in SC as Governor so he's had some recent media attention though he'd need much more to win the nomination. He has also said he's not interested in a run for the WH yet but if the support is there you never know.

An unknown may be just what we need right now. Someone that the American electorate sees as a fresh face. Far from the corruption and party politics and ready to lead on conservative principles.

If you know anything more about him please share. ^_^

I have had the opportunity to meet with Mark Sanford and his wife on a few occasions and have had one on one conversations with him. He is one of the best listeners I have ever met which I think is the most often overlooked aspect of communication. His record as a representative was, in my mind, fantasic. Even when I disagreed with his position on any given issue I respected his integrity and reasoning in holding his opinion. My only reservations are whether he would subject himself and his family to the rigors of a presidential campaign and my unfamilarity with his views on foreign affairs which will loom large in 2008.

Whoever becomes the standard bearer for the GOP in '08 better be an unknown because none of the "known leaders" can move the party faithful or, more importantly, the nation. It is pitiful that the majority party has so little apparent talent, conviction or character.

Even the "good" pubbies remind of a shower singer - they have it in their hearts but they just can't get it out in a way that is pleasurable to hear.

How is he going to fight the embarrassing Election Day disaster that he had posted all over the news that he was not prepared to vote. I think he needs to explain himself or his competition is going to majorly use this against him in a very negative way. I don't mind him running for President because I think he would do great, but he will have to discuss this so it is a non issue. The news seriously made him look like an idiot and that was the first time I am many others even knew him. I went and looked at the "goober's" website after that and found him to be a great candidate. He is not a goober, but someone who was not prepared to vote.
