Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race? [MARC AMBINDER]
Sure buddy, 3 years, 3,856 threads, 4,795 replies, and contributions to FR, I'm a disruptor.
After last nights debacle I'd be reticent to take advice from the White House if I were George Allen.
Exactly what DO we have to lose??
The Washington Post has completely torpedoed Allen's campaign. Will they make him look worse?
Nope. We don't. We just give in, time and time again, rather than simply get what needs to be done done.
I doubt that Allen has the votes, I'm pretty sure that his advisers know this, and if we had leadership, they'd be on the phone making a deal right now. Horse trading - we'll stop contesting lost causes if they allow up/down votes on nominations or some other concession. Instead, we'll wait, Allen will go away in a whimper, and we get nothing.
As for demands to share power - eh. What of it? Soreloserman tactics. It was our job to win, we lost, let them have a crack at it, and somewhere along the line, figure out how to actually get Bush to use his veto.
They are like Lucy with the football, in Peanuts.
"What possible benefit would it be for the GOP for Allen to concede? "
Dick Cheney doesn't have to show up and be the tie-breaking vote everyday.
Once you get up near 28,000 posts come see me eh!
And one more thing. I've had it with the denutted republicans and their penchant for bending over every time the MSM says boo.
The only sane reason to apply any pressure for him to concede would either be for some vague high ground, which is utter nonsense; or, to insure that the democrats hold both houses of congress just prior to a major disaster.
So what might be about to happen?
1) War with Iran.
2) China's currency manipulation causes a massive international economic tsunami.
3) The collapse of the housing market precipitates a major economic downturn in the US.
4) Unknowns x, y, and z.
Throwing around a lot of accusations tonight.
Hey, isn't that what he gets paid to do?
Well, I'm all curious now. What's a 'cockbook'? Tips on raising roosters?
Bush needs to worry about being impeached, and not whether Allen has a spine or not. Bushs new tone needs to take a hike. The MSM has trashed Allen for months on end, and Allen needs to fight with every legal avenue he has.
Then I won't be a disruptor anymore?
do you know that all votes that have been cast were counted by now, and how do you know that?
I agree. Webb should have gotten more votes, if he wanted to glide into office. Allen's right to an accounting has more weight to it than the Dem's have had in the past several election cycles.
After what Al Gore and John Kerry put us through during the last two Presidential elections, it is only fair that the Virginia vote be checked and re-checked, considering the stakes. Who is behind this demand that Allen concession, Ken Mehlman?
Mehlman should resign--and he would if he were a man!
Like I said. What's the rush? He's legally got to the 27th anyway. That's when they call the winners. Sheesh.
Stop it right now.
RWR8189 is not a disruptor or a troll.
Sorry, no matter how big a Jim Webb fan you are, I'm not. Guy is a sorry excuse for a human being.
