Abortion Advocates Capture House, Appear to Have Senate Too

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates appeared to have lost both the Senate and the House of Representatives in yesterday's elections. That's troublesome news for pro-life groups who are concerned about stopping the advance of pro-abortion legislation, and it means a tough two years as pro-life bills won't likely make much progress. At press time it appeared Democrats would control the House on a 226-195 margin. The Senate appears to be headed to a 51-49 Democratic control.
Meanwhile, should a Supreme Court justice retire in the next two years, President Bush will apparently have a combative Senate that won't have a Republican majority to help him get nominees to the Senate floor.
Whether a bipartisan group that helped stopped filibusters before will remain intact is questionable.
Pro-life groups are also worried that abortion advocates will use House committees to take on abstinence education and crisis pregnancy centers.
The results will likely make it so pro-life advocates will have a difficult time stopping the advance of abortion, human cloning and embryonic stem cell research in Congress.
Republicans appeared to have failed to win races in Virginia, Missouri, Montana and Maryland they needed to win to keep the majority.

Needless to say, this is BAD. But you know, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. The GOP has been purged of the only 3 Republicans endorsed by NARAL: Lincoln Chafee, Rob Simmons, and Nancy Johnson. In Texas, Dan Patrick, who is to introduce a trigger law that will outlaw abortion in the state if Roe is overturned, is in the lead. If the GOP isn't completely blind (although given this year's campaign...), maybe they will see that they lost to more moderate Dems and that they have to run true conservatives to give a distinct alternative to voters. Get ready for '08, FRiends.

The senate has been held by abortion advocates for decades. It's just that many of them were called Republicans.

Any info about the Partial-Birth case in the Supreme Court today?

It basically sounds like the justices were arguing "Why prevent this type of murder? Aren't they just going be murdered another way?"

This is equating Dhimmis with pro-abortion, when we know for a some ran as pro-life and got elected. As usual the DBM is spreading more disinformation than news.

But gee, at least we can feel better about ourselves for having taught those Republicans a lesson...sarcasm/

Yup, reminds me of the guy down the street that shot his foot off teaching his kids gun safety.

I believe Tim Long is overly pessimistic in his appraisal of the election results as they relate to the abortion question. I am confident that if he looks into the positions of the victors more thoroughly, he will find that many of them are as opposed to the notion of abortion on demand as he is. Time will tell. Meanwhile, we also have the issue of just war and unilateral invasion. It also deserves the attention of right-to-lifers.

I believe that Olympia Snowe is 100% pro-choice or pro-death, whichever term you prefer.

I hold very little confidence that those pro-life Dems like Casey will stay pro-life when they enter the senate. They will vote right along with abortion loving Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton, etc.
To: Tim Long
I used to be pro-life.. But hearing about abortion all the time gets old. I don't care any more. If women want to murder their child so be it. One day they will face judgment for their actions.
But I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if all the pro-lifers felt the same way and said we won't fight you anymore go ahead kill your child. It makes no difference to us.

Yes, but they had to welcome some quasi-pro lifers (and one mock one) into their party to pull it off. This establishes a precedent for more and even stronger more genuine prolifers to crack their roach motel ranks and shine some brilliant light on the fester of the abortion lobby, causing it to eventually crumble from within.
I would expect in 08 even more will be allowed to run with them, and when they pay their political dues, they will start breaking with them on social issues. A flood eventually.

Schumer and Emmanuel knew how to get back into power, by duping folks like you into thinking a sprinkling of supposed pro-life democrats would make some sort of change in the death cult democrat party. Wake up ...

I don't believe it....the Dem leadership does not allow its candidates to be pro-life. These guys will soon be in lock step with NARAL and NOW.
To: rjp2005
Notice that they all call Harry Reid pro-life, but he votes pro-life about 50% of the time. I DON'T call that pro-life. I call that straddling the fence.

Yeah, right. So, how many more decades and how many more thousands of dead babies do we get until we are again in a position [if ever] to get conservative justices appointed. Do you HONESTLY believe that this Senate will allow any conservative to be appointed? They will never get out of committee! So, the next appointment will be your 'hated' moderate or outright pro baby killer appointed for life. But, that's OK, all the 'they weren't conservative enough' get to say 'I told you so'
Wonder how many babies will die for that view?
