I just heard him on Al Rantel's show and checked to see if this was posted yet. He expressed his hatred for both Bushs, Rummy, Cheney, neocons... Had nice things to say about Colin Powell and Bill Maher, though.

Both parties should be destroyed and replaced -- in the case of the GOP by a truly conservative party.Page me when they form one--I'll be in the bar.

You are too pitiful for that.

FR stands for Free Republic, including the word Free. People are entitled to their opinions and outlooks. And there needs to be an airing of what being a conservative is, given the results of the election. ROTFLMAO- people have not been free to post opinions and outlooks here for some time if their take differs even a tiny bit with what some think. Most who didn't agree with President Bush 110% on every issue have been banned or silenced. I have been waiting for a certain group here to start passing out Kool-aid.
There are many here that believe if you harp posters into not posting their issues with policy- POOF those issues will disappear. Might work if they could just manage to also force people to vote their way. The issues are there, whether we are allowed to discuss them here or not.
As to the "airing of what being a conservative is" that will never be allowed on this site- many have already been banned for trying that one. You must have this site confused with one of the same name, that existed once upon a time. The site that is here now in no way resembles that place- this is more like Wonderland- only with several Queens of Hearts instead of only one to deal with.
Before anyone jumps up to flame me- I voted, and I voted R. Not that it matters to some of you, that would still like to have me disappear because I don't spout the party line 24/7.

Pombo's problems weren't personal, but he apparently took a whole lot of Abramoff money.

Nah, not Koolaid. They like gin and vodka. In large quantities.
When they hunt in packs, you'd think management would restrain them a bit. Doesn't make it a very friendly board when they're running around bragging about how they got so-and-so banned and they're going to get so-and-so next. It's a shame there's actually only about a half-dozen who behave like this. It's harmed our FR. Bad enough that any newbie gets attacked immediately as a 'plant' by those with 1-2 years of seniority. I guess it's a bit of hazing. But then the wrecking crew arrives.
You look at it sometimes and wonder why people even want to sign up to such a hostile forum. It wasn't this way in the pre-Bush era. A lot more welcoming, more diversity but still very conservative. Actually, far more conservative that it is now after six years of 'compassionate' (nudge-nudge) conservatism.

You are right about the pack of disruptor's being small- they are able to create a lot of problems though because they are powerful and bullet proof. Not sure why, but they can say and do anything and not even get a time out. Anyone that disagrees with them will get banned for far less than their normal behavior. I like to call them the Queens of Hearts because they make up rules as they go along, and yell the equivalent of "off with her head" to get anyone not towing "their" mark silenced or banned by a moderator.
This site is starting to show the signs of "group think" and yet so many are surprised when things don't turn out the way the "experts" on FR said they would. Without open discussion it is hard to know the climate, what others are thinking and why. When someone disagrees with me I am always interested in why they think the way they do; being surrounded by cheerleaders is good for the ego I guess, not always helpful when dealing with reality.

They have lots of seniority. Maybe a third of them have more years here than I do, not that I'm all that 'old'. Most of them, though, are part of the post-Bush (Bushorama) era here at FR.
What's clear is that they hunt in packs, that they use email/IM/FReepmail to coordinate their active persecution of others, that management can't see what the rest of us can clearly see.
Many of them are heavy drinkers and make complete fools of themselves, often late at night. And drinking just makes them more vicious, not more mellow. They draw ridicule on FR from other forums. Not good for us.
Of course, I can be tough too but I think there's a difference. For instance, yesterday I was on a Giuliani thread. When someone started bashing on Bible-thumpers and saying nice things about gun control, I commented that I wished the mods would expel people who bash Christians or make gungrabbing talk. But I didn't summon any moderators. I didn't summon anyone via FReepmail or IM or email to jump on them. I said my bit and let it stand. And I only said it because JimRob has so many times said this is not a place for gungrabbing talk or to bash on Christians. Consistently, FR is not for gun control or anti-Christian. So I'm tough on a few things too. But I don't get drunk, call in a pack of harpies to hound someone and sit around cackling while awaiting the Viking Kitty. That's not a good image for FR.
I don't know how many times I've said we need to let the mods be the mods and these busybodies need to pipe down or be expelled themselves. Our mods are very capable and very little ever slips past them. These mod-wannabe's actually hurt FR with their drunken antics.

Sad thing is the Queens of Hearts are often mistaken for moderators by newbies and those that encounter them in a nasty way the first time.
I don't think it has anything to do with how long they have been here- they have had many people silenced and/or banned that were here before they were. I'm not real sure why they are awarded "special powers" by the real powers that be.

Well, I'm happy to say that I've been posting here for quite a few years now (not so much in non-election years) and there has been no effort to ban me. And I don't always agree with the majority of other posters.
And there does need to be a reexamining of what platform is presented to the public. This year, the only thing the GOP really stood for was winning reelecion.

Sometimes you wonder how we get new FReepers after they have to run that gauntlet.

True. But you're pretty polite. Some of us who got into the Brownie thiing or the Harriet flap made some enemies. Or if debate got very pointed about spending or border issues. Of course, if you're more opinionated, you are likely to make people mad. The GOP split on some of these issues so the most loyal supporters of the president didn't like anyone who was less than 100% loyal. All fine and good, FR is meant for impassioned debate. What's objectionable, though, is to see a small element who feels entitled conspire to bully people for their honest opinions which fall well within the Republican/conservative mainstream opinion even if they don't fully support or agree with the president. Bullying conservatives/Republicans is bad for FR.

Obviously, we gave the Dims this opening. It's retail and the customer is always right. We were complacent, confident of a false permanent majority. The problem for the GOP is facing and admitting that they brought this on themselves by trying to out-Democrat the Dims. The voters will always pick the real article instead. Every time.
We had Republicans pretending to be liberals. We had Dims pretending to be conservatives. So they won.
