Pull out immediately. Whatever happens happens. It will anyway. But no more Americans have to die

Wonder what happens to the run away and hid crowds thinking if you change the Iraq to Israel and the Americans to Jews in the sentence above. Once they sell out one country for "realism" lots of others ones get disposable. Especial with Saudi Inc running the US National Mid East policy. People should be real careful about suggesting bailing on anyone

Nominated, anyway. To be confirmed is a whole different story.

The only thing Rumsfeld did wrong was to not declare the DSM an enemy propaganda organ and deal with it accordingly.

He's a good man and we'll miss him. God bless you Mr. Secretary, you have the thanks of a grateful nation.

I am extremely impressed by his press conf. currently underway. Seems to me ppl need to have a stake in things to act responsibly, and the dems now have a stake and i really think GWB is being very smart about it.

This is Elder Bushes man. GHWB got him appointed as the dean of Texas A&M...which I found strange at the time. This man has been recommended by GHWB and possibly Baker. This should be interesting. I'm going to trust President Bush.

My guess is that it was a done deal before the announcement.

The Neo Isolationist "Realists" are back from Bush 1. Perpare to surrender the War on Islamic Facisim.

Looks like he was CIA director during the first Gulf War. That hardly makes him an "isolationist" or "neoisolationist." Isolationists would have opposed that war.

Not just an Eagle Scout, but an Eagle amongst Eagles. That is all I need to know!

And? We might have lost the election?

Uh, yeah, as in, it wouldn't have mattered. It would have been viewed as another "scandal" that the GOP had to deal with. Please don't come back with a lecture. Some people asked why and I answered.

The Israelis defend themselves. Nothwithstanding the pressure from their friends.

In fact using that as a model, the US should immediately shift to caring about the only group in Iraq that cares about American friendship and support- the Kurds.

Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!
Hullabaloo, Caneck! Caneck!

Second Verse

Good-bye to Texas University.
So long to the Orange and White.
Good luck to the dear old Texas Aggies,
They are the boys who show
the real old fight.
The eyes of Texas are upon you.
That is the song they sing so well,
So, good-bye to Texas University,
We're goin' to beat you all to --
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem!
Rough! Tough!
Real stuff! Texas A&M!

They must've have been planning this before the election.

The President just said as much. He didn't want this to be an election issue, he said. So they waited until today. He also said that he didn't have a chance to meet with the new guy until Sunday.

Yes, GWB said so himself. My point is that Gates is not yet SecDef and barring a recess appointment, Gates' nomination hearings will be the forum for the RATs to try Sec. Rumsfeld in absentia. We will hear the most sickening garbage imaginable and every liberal position will be put forward.

Listening to some of the comments Rush is making during Bush's speech and press conference, I get the impression he is going to throw Bush under the bus.

Maybe you'd prefer to throw in with the neocons like Perle who are chewing Bush and Rumsfeld up for their supposedly incompetent execution of the amazingly brilliant neocon "plan". No one ever has figured out what that "plan" was. I guess it was hidden somewhere with Saddam's nukes.

The neocons have been stabbing the GOP in the back very publicly recently and have contributed to this defeat, more than any mistake Rummy may have made. One way or the other, it's time to expel the neocon element from foreign and military policy. What a pack of weasels!

I don't understand all the defense of Rumsfeld. I thought he was tactically a disaster from the moment he slashed the TOE going into Iraq. I think war should be fought with every resource you can bring to bear, not cheaply so that you can make it more politically palatable. When you try to make war on the cheap, you just pay larger installments.

Plus his postwar planning was a joke. I can't believe he bought into the neocon theory that postwar Iraq would be a cakewalk, but I have no other explanation for the failure to secure intelligence records, and government facilities going into Bagdad until after they'd been thoroughly looted.
