This is just crossing my desk now; nothing follows yet. According to some sources this is the subject of the noon presser.
This does indeed look like an act of defeat on behalf of the White House. Either Rumsfeld should have goen months ago, or he should have waited until some time in 2007.
Maybe GWB wants to appoint a new sec. now though while the Repubs are still in control because when Dems have their Senate majority he probably wont be able to get any nominees through.
They got Delay, Weldon, Allen, and now Rummy. And Hillary says she wants to end the politics of personal destruction. The GOP made a fatal mistake by allow 100 pages of the Barrett Report to remain sealed.
Jump on me now, but check with me later.

This will make Bush a lame duck for sure - two-three months to get a replacement Secretary, approved by Dems.
This is going to get ugly.
Bingo.
Rell, I believe. A Republican...in so far as one in CT is allowed to be one.
Regards, Ivan
That's what I was thinking.
It's not like Rick is going away for good anyway. He'll be around somehow.
Who needs a SecDef; we'll simply eliminate the military and use those funds to support our new immigrants.
To hell with it all.. if I knew this BS I WOULD have stayed home tomorrow.
God help them if they nominate McStain... I was prepared to give it to him for the party, but after this... to hell with THEM ALL.
p.s., I am digging a bomb shelter nuclear fallout shelter in my yard as I type...Thank a stay at home Conservative.
No!
Why do this NOW...and give the DEMS ANOTHER GIFT????
I just wanna scream!
Please ... not. It's a demanding executive job and a Senator gets zero exec experience.
I think it would. The moderates and conservatives out there that didn't vote or voted the other way did so solely because Bush refused to admit that they screwed up. Why do we want a leader that turns a blind eye to obvious mismanagement?
Had he resigned before the election then those would have voted R like usual because they didn't feel the need to send Bush a message to change up the leadership who didn't send in enough soldiers.
Chuck Norris?
Sad by true and it's only going to get worse
"Start buying lots of Duct Tape, Ammo, Canned food and Water"
Agreed, and I am furious about it.
I actually thought about the stocking up first thing this morning when I learned of the election results.
It's going to get worse before it gets better.
