my prediction is that Rush presents the angle that a little suffering between now and 2008 will be a good thing ....

I happen to agree that the GOP needed a little house cleaning - way too many RINOs. Unfortunately we are still stuck with a lot of RINOs, but that's something we can work on.

The GOP leadership has two choices - stop paying lip service to Conservatives and taking our votes for granted, or move even further in towards the center (i.e. moving to the left), trying to take away votes from the Democrats. If they choose to move the GOP further to the middle (left), then they will probably lose again in 2008.

What is an even more frightening thought for me is that these dems are perfectly capable of hangin our current warriors in Iraq out to dry by failing to fund them the monies needed to fight this war. With three family members being over there I fear what their fates, and the fate of all of our troops, might be under this new (lack of) leadership.

It makes me nervous when I hear he thinks he has a much better chance of passing his "Immigration reform" with the Rats..

Don't be nervous. Just be calm and serene in the certain knowledge that amnesty is coming.

I think you're right and the demonrats will have to prove they have something to offer. As Rush said, they have nothing and they beat us. But not for long.

That's right. GOD is in control, not the democrats, republicans, conservatives, libertarians, socialists, communists--HE has the last say and it ain't over yet.

Never heard anything for Faso here in CNY. I was disgusted with the republican party for that and also disgusted with the dirty ads for Arcuri. No need for that garbage to continue to go on. They need to look deep inside and figure out WHY they lost.

Bush looking very weak in this presser...

Wow, I had the opposite impression and saw a man who would try and work with the dems up to a point. If he has to abandon his principles in order to get along, than NO DEAL.

I have to admit I mostly saw the Q&A part of Wednesday's press conference. I heard his speech, but wasn't watching it closely (multi-tasking as usual). During the Q&A (which I watched) he was stumbling and mumbling... trying to make silly comments. It was awful.

Zelig was at a business conference and saw a TV with this presser going on, but the sound was muted. He said he could tell just by Pres. Bush's body language that "things weren't going well."

I listened to dubya being jipped on Rush. I was not impressed. If he had dropped the new tone right off the bat and acted like a true conservative we would not have lost the house and senate. His new tone caused the Republicans in the house in Senate to act like puppies so they could just get along. This whole election has me so upset I feel like burning my voter registration card.

I'm not ready to burn my voter registration card, but I have cut ties to the GOP over the past year or two, financially and in the amount of time I volunteered (as in none, quite a change for my wife and I as opposed to the past) - when they decide they want to act like Conservatives again, then I'll reconsider.

How are we ending up with such wimpy politicians?

Superb essay! They seek to marginalize us out of existance!!!

I think I spent the past 24 hours in you neck of the woods! This is, if that weather site on your FR homepage is where you reside. That's quite a FR homepage, too, by the way.

It was an analogy, not a perfect one but a decent one. Teams win and lose games and they need to give the fans something to cheer for. Politicians win and lose public policy battles and they need to give people something to vote for. Republicans squandered their majority and didn't give people a clear difference between themselves and Democrats.

Yes, and all one must do is ask the question, "Who most benefits from a less conservative GOP?" to figure out who "they" are.

Who INSIDE the GOP is banging the drum to move center? Aren't these voices the same voices who had no problems with The Gang of 14; who thought the Constitutional Option was over-the-top; who keep insisting that anyone advocating tight control of our Southern border is some kind of racist bigot?

These are no less than liberal talking points in elephant costumes, and those WITHIN the GOP promulgating these positions are no more than proto-liberal hacks who care more for a pork-fat-greased government machine than for the preservation of the conservative foundations of the Republic itself. These people are shameless policy pimps standing on the street corners in the public squares selling their political whores in attempts to entice conservative minds into compromising, and hopefully abandoning, their blood-bought conservative principles.

They must be outed and shunned.

Not even a decent analogy if you think about it. Elections are in the hands of the voters. Game outcomes are not in the hands of fans.

Neither of us is going to change our mind so I can agree to disagree if you can. We are on the same side after all (or should be).
