There was also the 2000 election. Kind of close. Then there was Jim Jeffords.

You've summed it up perfectly. I have a brother like your grandfather and I thank God every day for his calm temperament and ability to get things done in the face of unlimited obstacles. That is the difference between a "diplomat" and a "politician". And the GOP mouthpieces need to learn how to polish their skills before we lose again. Let the other side (and many of our own) rant. And rise above them. Yes indeed.
He died when I was a senior in college, but I spent a great deal of time with him in his last years. It was beautiful to watch him take part in political debates within our family. He would mostly be silent, then when everyone seemed a little in need of a wise word, he would say a little. It didn't take many words.

When Bush actually governs and leads as a conservative, the support will be there.
It's hard to support someone that continues to spit in your face.

I love GWBUSH. My house is full od Bush books, photos, you name it...... but dang, today he just did not sound like the leader he should be. He was flustered.. the media was eating him alive, he mis-spoke... he should have just said less....He supports our military, and I support him. Just lots of different emotions going on and we can not sit back and act as if our little FR world is the way the majority of america. Time to do a lot of reflecting. And yes, I still love W, but he needs some big time help and lots of prayers.

Rush, now talking about how he will voice dissent even if it goes against the party, friendship aside.
Why did Rush remain silent about Ann Coulter's over-the-top remarks last year when she insulted President Bush as being a drunk?
Her conbot rhetoric was extreme, and most importantly it was not factual.

THE GATES HEARINGS [Byron York] Democrats are already circulating accounts of Robert Gates and Iran-contra. If there is a Chairman Levin, he will probably have a few questions. In fact, the Gates confirmation hearings will be an early test for Senate Democrats. They will undoubtedly realize that they need to suppress their desire to take an early scalp lest they face accusations of trying to undermine the troops and the war effort. But they'll be conflicted.

It wasn't just right wingers that put him in office Howlin, and even with that, he is the President of the entire nation, not just conservatives.
For some, that is difficult to grasp.

No legislation will be enacted without Bush's signature either. He can stand his ground, if he wants to.
Not only that, but he can get legislation passed that he might not have been able to do under Republicans. That's something a lot of people are ignoring.
