<< Is it too early to say that the blame for this loss rests squarely with President Bush and the “Bushbots”? >>

Is it too late to say yes?

One year ago during the Harriet Miers debate the Ingrahams, Noonans, Coulters and NRO gang threw a temper tantrum because they didn't approve of the President's pick. They put him in office and they wanted control of the courts or they were going to bring him down. Well they did with their months of ridicule. Unfortunately, in the end they brought down the Republicans. Any hopes for a conservative court has been lost, as well as a win in Iraq.

I bet they all feel proud today.

How much? Entirely--that's how much.

The Republicans would have swept to a huge victory if they had not alienated their base support by their:

1. Failure to close the Mexican border and halt illegal immigration,

2. Failure to nullify the effects of the Kelo decision--immediately, and

3. Expansion of federal entitlements to include prescription drugs!

FOOLS!

This is really about creeping socialism. Government's purpose is to take care of us. The idea of people having to take care of themselves is politically unpopular.

There is a lot of disillusionment by those who previously voted Republican because their Republican-held government didn't reduce the size and control of government. Unfortunately, non-defense federal spending has grown MUCH faster with Republicans in control than it did when the Democrats were in control.

Look at the pig trough of congressional budget "earmarks" (expensive pet projects) that have exploded the federal budget during Republican leadership.

Where is a conservative to go?

The name-calling won't help. If you sell out your most faithful, you can't win.

If the conservatives lost heart and stayed home, who was in power to let them down?

I don't like the personal attacks I am reading here. If you want conservatives like me to abandon this site completely, keep up the personal attacks.

Well, it isn’t going to just be me saying that President Bush and the bots wasted too many years, they had the power and blew it.

Stated perfectly.

Thank you President Bush, you have had to deal with a lot of crap from the old media.

Yeah, and you took it all with a smile. You own the bully pulpit, Mr. Bush, but YOU DON'T USE IT WORTH A CRAP. We are at war AT HOME AND ABROAD. You could have fought EVERY LAST LIE from the Democrats and their media, but you just let them lay out there and metastasize. Your silence is deafening.

Perception of Iraq not going as well as people like.

Republicans spending

Democrats showing some intellect on running "Conservative" Democrats which kept them in power before '94

Failure of the GOP to offset the "conservative" Dem (Need to find a strategy to fight the facade)

Failure to campaign against the media and calling them out (Hell, the media does not even try to hide it anymore)

Pres. Bush failure to attack Democrats (You can't be political friends or bring "unity" in this day and age) Why is Sandy Berger a free man?

My Top Ten Criticisms of George W. Bush

  1. "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" - Enforcement of the law is a basic conservative belief. Pandering to those who openly flaunt the law is not.
  2. Poor Communications - There are numerous strong, clear reasons for the US to vigorously fight the War on Terror. Unfortunately, he has allowed the leftist media to spin and re-frame the war on their terms over and over again. There are issues he was absolutely, clearly right about, but he refuses to point them out. (Saddam's nuclear weapons program, anyone?) He only recently began fighting back and answering some of the more egregious media attacks. We could have used Tony Snow three years ago.
  3. No Child Left Behind - This program is in complete opposition to the approach on the issue of education that helped win Reagan and Gingrich staggering victories. Both of those conservative landslides called for the elimination of the DoE, not it's vigorous growth.
  4. Norman Mineta - A study in politically correct, ineffective bureaucracy, and at a critically dangerous time too.
  5. Missing Veto Pen - This new approach of avoiding vetoes like the plague and using legal memos in their stead is a dangerous thing.
  6. Cozying up to the enemy - BJ Clinton partnered up with Dad was just too bizarre for words. Coddling Arlen Specter is maddening enough to drive a conservative insane.
  7. Allowing Constitutional authority to be negotiated away - Apparently, there aren't enough White House lawyers who understand the principles of the Law of War. They all let the left make great strides in destroying the separation of battlefield law vs. civil law as well as the basic authority of the POTUS to conduct war. The White House didn't communicate a clear distinction between what is torture and what is not. McCain shot the whole party in the foot here.
  8. Department of Homeland Security - Yet another federal bureaucracy, yet another federal police force (is there a federal department that doesn't carry guns?), more massively overlapping areas of responsibility.
  9. Harriet Miers - Enough said.
  10. The Politically Correct war - When you try to fight a war nicely, you will lose sooner or later. War isn't nice; you can't ever make it nice. The one thing that sticks out as a real commonality between Vietnam and the WoT is that the media's opinion of it is given far too much consideration.

The time for diplomacy is after victory! Destroy the enemy, then rebuild your new allies.

Good post, Brian. And what a thread! The uncritical, undiscerning Bushies now blaming the mild critics of the Bush regime, all of whom have voted Pubbie at least 3 times since 2000. Here's a Bushie quote that stands out (I don't remember who, it really doesn't matter):

WE are the Republican Party; we're made up of lots of people: (realistic) conservatives and moderates and some even liberal Republicans.

Let me speak what's implied above: "and even some crypto progressives!". In other words, vote Republican, no matter what, don't question, shuddup, principles, ideology don't matter, only the Party does even if it follows NK's Dear Leader! No, thanks, too much monkey business for me to get involved in...
