What Republicans need to learn from tonight...
11/07/06 | Philistone

The most important thing that Republicans should learn from tonight is that America is a representative democracy.

This does NOT mean that your congress critter shares ALL your beliefs, or that he is a perfect human being, but rather that, in general, he votes the way you want him to.

It's like hiring a lawyer. You may despise his personal life and his principles, but what is important is that he WINS YOUR CASE.

Democraps could care less about the morals of their elected officials as long as they win.

Republicans could learn a lesson here...

They pushed them out for bigger spenders? For Pacifists? For more abortions?

Or are they simply uniformed?

I disagree. The media will love the first serious female candidate and Newt will be reminded consistently of his infidelities. He will be reminded of not getting a good seat with Bill on Air Force 1.

Newt has a lot of good ideas, but the package is severely damaged. Allen shot himself in the foot with his big mouth (he should have easily won). McCain is nuts. I think we need to start looking at a governor with real conservative roots. Maybe Perdue.

We learned tonight that there are a great many more sheeple in this country than we ever suspected.

"Simple: Conservatism wins everytime"

This is a strange night to say something so obviously at odds with reality. Name a conservative who really won tonight in a constested race ...

I helped a conservative challenge a liberal ... in a district that went 60/40 for the Republicans in 2002 ...

He got shellacked.

ok ok....it's late, I don't like this any more than you do. We can go on and on about why they lost...does it really matter? Is it going to change anything?

It's done, now it's up to conservatives to find conservative candidates in 08.

"Look on the bright side. Instead of acting like paranoid freaks the Dems will now act like arrogant drunks. We'll see if America likes what it bought in two years."

CLinton was an arrogant drunk-on-power liar for 8 years ... got re-elected and now is as beloved by his liberal-media friends as ever.

There is no bright side here from what I can tell. The GOP underperforms and they bring on the Democrats.

I see you have been actively posting tonite...

I'll answer and give my opinion.
The "Bridge to Nowhere" was a Senator Ted Stevens request for Alaska. Most voters do not know about it. The Conservatives do by and large (imo).

The Conservatives know who they voted for and stayed home. The REPRESENTATIVES did not REPRESENT them! Politics is local. Whenever I drive to a Home Depot I see countless illegals looking for work. Whenever I walk into a fast food place I see illegals working at a job which High School or College Student or Retirees could easily do.

No REPRESENTATION! And then there is the issue of Ear-marks and Jerry Lewis. The voters know that the Republicans in the House were BIG SPENDERS and they stayed home. What they don't know is that the tax cut passed a few years ago is set in part to expire. What they don't know is that the democrats are Berkely Communists.

The American people will find out. Too late, I think but they will find out. Nancy Pelosi and crowd learned their politics in the streets during the Viet Nam Anti-war days. Now they are in power.

Communists in power!

So voters were mad at the leftward drift, so they voted to go even further left? Or stayed home for the even further left to be victorious?

Very rational.

"They pushed them out for bigger spenders? For Pacifists? For more abortions?"

YES. They made Pelosi Speaker.

"Or are they simply uniformed?"
Wilfully so ... and the MSM will keep it that way if they can help it. No mention of Pelosi's pro-abort pro-gaymarriage pro-higher-taxes anti-defense and anti-Patriot-Act record.

Clinton got away with a lot of things that Pelosi, Durbin, Conyers, Kerry et al can't.

The bottom line is it is what it is. This isn't the '90s either. It's post 9/11 and the jihadis are coming.

" Newt has a lot of good ideas, but the package is severely damaged. "

Doesn't matter. Any GOP 'package' will be manhandled to the point of abuse.

Which is precisely my point that some here want to deny, that our enemy is the MSM/Hollywood/Academia, and until we destroy their influence, no Republican or Conservative will win, pass our issues, or even run with this hostile environment.

"I've learned nothing. I still *know* American power is morally superior to international institutions. I *know* free markets create more prosperity than command economies. I *know* the traditional family is better than free love.

We need to regroup and make certain the vision is set right in this country and squabble about details later. This requires articulating our philosophy to the American public and less reliance on wedge issues, which aren't good for nationalized elections.

Comrade Hillary + Dem Senate + Dem House = End of the Republic.

Let that sink in, and you'll know what you have to do."

Good points.

Back to articulating our basic, reaonable, common-sense, popular views on the issues and highlighting where the Democrats go wrong.

I am 34-and I doubt I will see a Republican majority again in my lifetime-Socialism and Godlessness can't be stopped.

And don't forget to add to the list the impact of having 20 million plus illegal aliens now being made eligible for citizenship (amnesty). You figure the Democrats will get at least eighty percent of that 20 million.

The President said tonight thru his spokesman that the one thing the President is happy about now is that he will be able to get a "comprehensive immigration reform" (illegal alien amnesty) bill passed out of the Congress now that the Democrats will control the House, since the GOP led House has been blocking it.

Are you expecting the New York or DC press corps to ask those? They have not in two senatorial elections.

Look, I know Hillary is dirty, I do not disagree. I really do not think we understand the media's hostility to conservatism. They want Hillary and they want her bad and if not her, then Obama.

Newt is a very smart man, but you are going to have social conservatives choking on his affairs and leaving his wife in the hospital when she was fighting cancer. I am a social conservative, I would vote for Newt over Hillary, but Newt has issues and the media is going to play them for all it's worth.
