Hugh Hewitt: Pennsylvania Meltdown
www.HughHewitt.com ^ | 11/07/06 | Hugh Hewitt

From a connected Keystoner:

We all prepared for this year’s elections to be heated, particularly in PA with so many contested races. But even with teams of lawyers on the ground, I don’t think anyone anticipated what is going on right now. I expect this will be THE national story by 5pm today if not sooner.

37 counties in Pennsylvania use the ESS & Ivotronic.

These machines are experiencing massive failures.

If you vote for one candidate, the opposing candidate lights up.

Rendell votes are counting for Swann. Santorum votes are counting for Casey and so on

County Boards of Elections or the PA Dept of State are refusing to take action.

They don’t see the disaster that is coming.

Hundreds if not thousands of voters are alerting the authorities of these problems.

This may warrant a revote in these 37 counties.

Does anyone know if these counties are Red or Blue?

Center of PA I would guess Red.

Every election decided in the courts.

I can't believe people would do this stuff.

The poll workers, whom I know

And we know their cars, too. I knew who was working the registration tables even before entering the gymnasium. Small world.

The Dim whiners demanded this type of voting after the 2000 election. We know why, and that's being proven by all the problems and shenanigans that are taking place.

No problem for me in Montgomery County, PA. My district is blue, but my precinct is red.

I, too, was sorry to see the new machines this morning. I liked the old voting machines, adn it seems to me they worked very reliably for decades.

I think the problem being reported out of PA is that the 'X' shows up in the wrong spot.

These the same machines they used in the primary 4 months, like 120 days ago?

Lemme guess, the software is from microsoft.

No otherwise 89% of all voters would be seeing this:

Someone told me that on the machines we used, paper ballots and scanned, that the ballots are shredded as soon as they go into the machine. Is that true?

I didn't have any problems voting either, but I don't like that scanning thing.

I voted in Chester County (45 min southwest of Philly)this morning at 8:15. I used a paper ballot and then was supposed to put it through a scnning machine. The machine was down and so my ballot went into a slot to be counted later. The poll worker said voter services had been called and was on the way, but I think I'll stop by again as I go out now to make sure all is well. Either way, irregularities and fraud are Rendell's specialty. This can't be good.

How about a little patience in waiting for results and using a pencil and paper ballot?

Pity. Wonderful place to visit and we've met some nice folks there.

Thanks. If that's the case a person should readily see the problem.

I picture them looking through a bag for one of those little replacement Christmas tree twinkle lights and pushing it into the light string behind the machine.

I read that in Northern Jersey, several counties were experiencing similar problems, the machines had evidently been pre voted for Menendez and the voter had to touch his name first to unvote, then touch Kean, or the vote was cast for Menendez.

Whatever happened to simple paper ballots and marking the candidate you want with an "X"?

Sometimes technology makes things worse, not better.

I'm speaking to a much larger issue that has been looming since 2000.
