MEMPHIS, Tenn. - FedEx Corp. said Tuesday it has canceled its order for 10 Airbus A380 jets, the new jumbo double-decker plane that has been dogged by numerous delays.

The company's FedEx Express unit has ordered 15 Boeing Co. 777 Freighters, and has options to purchase an additional 15, FedEx said in a news release. The company cited Airbus' production delays as the reason for the decision.

If they need to build assembly plants to meet demand it'll be outside of California OR Washington State.

Taxes? Or the enviro-weenies?

experience some GE-90 love. Its a beautiful thing.

Yes, super-powerful engines, but the ride is so smooth and comfortable.

Excuse me if I don't want to ride on a plane with another 799 people.

A comfortable 747 is big enough for me.

I have faith and trust in good ole Americna engineering and Boeing.

'I know who has flown the 777 says it's a dream.'
There are things that the GE-90 can do for a man that no woman can.

I checked the GE-90 engine out, what with your laudatory remarks. 115,000 pounds of thrust?!

Jeez, I am impressed!

They make a very distinctive sound unlike any other jet engine too. A kind of snarling growling sound as they spool up. For such a large engine, the power comes on quicker than you would think, and they just sip at the gas too. You can pack a 777 to the gills and those babies don't care. Power in spades.

There is always the 747-8F freighter. At first, I thought that said "fighter." THAT, I'd like to see! (And ride).

747 equiped with Airborne Laser System has the potential to be an interesting air-superiority system

What I find extremely ironic is that Air France (which is 44% owned by the French government) is not that thrilled by the A380-800. They'd rather buy A330-200's for routes to Africa and 777-200ER's and 777-300ER's for other long international routes. Air France can't wait for the A350XWB....

Well, the French are good about protecting their interests. They don't want or need that big pig any more than any other airline does. The worst news for Airbus is that airlines are beginning to return to profitability, and that usually means a complete re-evaluation of expenditures to maintain profits. They become risk averse. The A380 is going to be cancelled.

If we see the A380 cancelled expect 747-8I orders on the scale of 30 for Singapore Airlines and 40 for Emirates Airlines.

Cool! I work for Fed Ex, although at the Fed Ex Ground HQ but I'm glad to hear this. At the last airshow here in Pittsburgh, I did manage to get aboard a Fed Ex Airbus 300 though at one of the displays.

Wow, it just keeps getting worse for Airbus. FedEx jumping ship is a big deal, as bad as British Aerospace dumping their 20% stock share in EADS.
