I see your point, and we don't mean to be heavy handed, but let's remember that where the races are tight it doesn't take much to swing an election, and for marginal voters, a bad exit poll could be it.

I'm sorry but that is simply silly. Nobody who reads Free Republic is going to be swayed by a stupid inaccurate and skewed exit poll. I do not fear them. I laugh at them. We have been discussing pre-election polls every day until we are ready to vomit. An exit poll is no different, except that it is entirely non-scientific. Only those willing to tell some stupid pollster how they voted are counted. I would not give a pollster the time of day. Never have, never will. In fact if some a$$#01e were to ask me as I was leaving the poll, I'd tell him to take his poll and shove it.

What the heck are we afraid of? The MSM? Ha!

I like "Vote Democratic, Osama Bin Laden is counting on you!"

I kept wishing I had a bumper sticker that said..."Who would Terrorists Vote for?"

I suspect that the discussion about posting exit polls is vastly more interesting than a discussion about the exit polls themselves.

Why do you want to stop exit polls from being posted?

because we fear that some freeper might sit on his butt

It's not the freeper we are concerned with, it's the marginal voter and the millions of lurkers. We're not just any discussion board. Our reach is enormous. For many, we are their main source for news.

If a bad exit poll discourages even 1% from voting, that could be enough to swing an election. It happened in 2004. Thanks for your understanding.

Okay...

If they're so completely stupid and useless --

What's your point in advocating wasting otherwise potentially useful bandwidth sharing and discussing them??

Just asking....

You know what P, stop pee-peeing on this thread.

I can see your point, but even with all the evidence of the fraudulent exit polls in 2000, 02, 04, some on FR when they see the fraudulent drive bu media exit polls, they will still panic and wail like chicken littles.

Yuh know, use some common sense.

It could also encourage more Dems to vote. We wouldn't want that. ;)

I think the issue is more along the lines of not violating the basic terms of the exit polls - that they are NOT meant to be released until the actual polls close in a given state.

Oh well we wouldn't want to violate the terms of an exit poll, would we? We respect exit polls here at Free Republic. They have always been soooooooo accurate. /sarc

We are playing into the hands of the MSM by not discussing them. We would not be posting them if they hadn't already been released. But if we don't post them here when they are elsewhere to be read, then who is going to put them into perspective? Drudge? The MSM?

I vote we post them! Too bad we can't have a poll on this issue. Where is the sidebar poll on this subject? Maybe my point of view would be defeated (and I would be happy to live with the result), but I really think this ought to be put up to a vote of the members.

Poll Question:

Should Free Republic be free to discuss exit polling data?

I vote yes.

I believe we should first vote on whether we should vote on the issue.

Why don't all states have early voting?

I don't "get" this whole early voting thing. I don't even remember when or why it started.

I don't know what the earliest day is, but what if your Rep. was Mark Foley?

The exit polls were wildly wrong in 2004. Why should we publicize them in '06?

Here's a prayer for democrats to lose.

"Lord God, the lives of millions of unborn children depend on the results of this election. We pray for an overcoming majority in the Senate, so that pro-life judges can be nominated by our President and then receive confirmation by the Senate.

This is a prayer for life, and the sanctity of innocent life is dear to Your heart. Therefore, we acknowledge that this prayer is something You affirm and is, then,

In Jesus' name; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.
