Sons of state senator charged with flag vandalism (D-Idaho)

BOISE -- An Idaho state senator is in the spotlight after two of his sons were arrested on charges of vandalizing the statehouse grounds.

Police charged 24-year-old Michael "Ike" Burkett and 22-year-old Thomas Burkett with malicious injury to property.

They are the sons of district 19 senator Mike Burkett.

Boise police say witnesses reported the pair bent two poles that hold flags to memorialize soldiers killed in Iraq.

Ike Burkett is also charged with resisting and obstructing officers -- and was booked into the Ada County Jail.

Their father -- senator Burkett -- issued a written statement saying "Tom and Ike Burkett are my two sons. They have been taught to do the right thing. I know they have and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities. Their rendition of the facts is different than what has been reported. I'm confident they will get to the bottom of this and that justice will be done."

Perhaps the 'right thing' in this Democrats eyes is vandalizing a memorial to fallen American hero's.

I know they have and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities.

Sure, by resisting arrest.

Ah, the 'good kids' of a Democrat.

Their rendition of the facts is different than what has been reported.

"It was just a botched joke, Dad. Honest."

I would mock, but I know that even children raised to be good can turn to sin and mayhem. I have done the same to God, and I have vowed never to mock a parents' pain at the sins of the child...

May they do the right things, and restore their father's faith in them. Likewise, may the parents of the sacred dead hold their loved ones memories cherished always, for this is a gift beyond compare - the gift of a good and loving child.

You now before my grandfather passed away (WWII vet. pacific ) he told me.. "Sometimes i wonder why i did what i did for this country... more and more people disrespect myself and my generation" I don't think i could do it again.. even if i wanted to.."

This is some of the most disrespectful times I've encountered in my 27 yrs. People are DYING for us and this great nation... why do we continue to p**s on their memory and legacy?

Jon Cary was asked to comment on the event and was quoted as saying: "Ah, leave the kids alone, it was just a botched joke".

[Prolly the lawyer part that made him go bad.]

These are not "children". They are 24 and 22 years old. Adults, fully responsible for their actions.

Their father has no legal control over them.

Be interesting to see if the good folks of Idaho somehow hold the father at least partially accountable for this.

Trouble is, the father doesn't seem to have any pain about the actions his sons tooks. He's gone into "I did not have sex with that woman" mode.

Unless these boys were out their kicking somebody else's a$$ for knocking these polls over, I don't really see what "rendition" of the facts can be any better.

And if they were kicking somebody else's a$$, they better be able to furnish the freshly kicked a$$ as proof.

As I recall, he "loathed the military" as well...
