For the good of the nation, that news would be withheld until after the election so that the news wouldn't be bad-mouthed by the TV talking heads as some stunt pre-planned to influence the elections.
By releasing it after the elections, our whole nation gets to cheer a great war-on-terror victory rather than have half the country think it's a grand conspiracy.
