The GOP is relying too much on phoning so that it can reach huge numbers of voters. They seem to have forgotten about the importance of QUALITY of contact. More emphasis should have been placed on precinct-walking. The idea of making multiple calls to the same voter is ill-advised. (And autodials -- recorded calls or "robocalls" -- are way overused.) As so often, the "professionals" don't look at it from the standpoint of the average Joe -- or the average volunteer.
There should be one call to each low and medium propensity voter about absentee voting, then, at the end, one call explaining where his/her polling place is located and its hours.
I think you're right. Tom Ridge just called me. 52 calls and counting! It'll be 100 by the time the night is over. I'm probably on my own call list, I can call myself. "Hello, Mr. Big E, this is Big E with the Jim Gerlach campaign, and we'd like to ask for your support tomorrow......"
Actually, I forward the phone to my cell while I'm out, so I can be making solicitations on their phone, and receiving solicitations on my cell, all at the same time.
