Putting on their Sunday best

Politics and gospel freely mix with Obama and Ford

By Halimah Abdullah Contact November 6, 2006

NASHVILLE -- Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and Democratic congressional colleague Harold Ford Jr. testified to the power of God and the political process during a whirlwind tour of church services Sunday.

Ford's senatorial campaign, with Obama in tow, dropped in for a morning service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, a large, predominantly African-American house of worship nestled in a Nashville strip mall. There, Obama and Ford did a little teaching and a whole lot of preaching.

"We appreciate our staffs that put in long hours, they work hard, they're sophisticated, they have polling. ... But the congressman said something pretty wise. We have another Manager," Obama said glancing upward briefly and smiling broadly at the gathering.

On the Sunday before the election, Ford and Obama's visit to Middle Tennessee congregations gave them one last chance to use the pulpit to rally supporters.

It's always been encouraged if you happen to be a communist, and the 'church' has a predominately 'black' congregation.

It is only a NO NO if you are a Republican, and it is a "white" church...

He not only has started "using" it more...he is sickening and condescending to listen to...because he tries so hard to work it into his conversation.

The only GOOD thing I can say about it is that one night he was on Hannity and Colmes...and I could tell that even though Alan was ALL ready to cheerlead for him...he really made Alan uncomfortable with his "religious talk"..and some of his other claims re: his platform.

He was trying to go so far "right"...that by the time the interview was over, Alan was barely lukewarm in his attitude towards Ford...LOL

"On the Sunday before the election, Ford and Obama's visit to Middle Tennessee congregations gave them one last chance to use the pulpit to rally supporters"

On Wednesday there should be several fewer tax exempt institutions in Tennessee.

It's not a Catholic Church. If it was, and they were saying call your State Reps about a Marriage Amendement vote, then the MA Municipal Association would be suing to revoke our 503(c) status. Which I fully expect them to do.

Is this the Barack Hussein Obama who's father was the Kenyan muslim goatfarmer with the Harvard scholarship? Politicking in a church with Harold Ford, the faux-conservative Democrat candidate?

Tell me, did Michael J. Fox give the sermon?

It's very funny how Ford suddenly becomes a "Christian Black man" when he is outside of the Playboy parties.

I email Americanunited.. who by the way, have major left leanings.... about Hillary using church for campaigning.. and this is her response to me... I hope someone can email her back with the photo's and times that were provided in an earlier thread....

Thank you for your e-mail. We’d be happy to follow up with this complaint. Can you supply us with any proof (photographs, newspaper articles, first person accounts, etc.) that campaign activities took place at a house of worship?

All the best,

Lauren

I just called the Comical Appeal and asked for Halima Abdullah, but got her recording. Her title is "political reporter."

I left a message, after reading the headline above, asking her if that newspaper has any "investigative journalists" that could check into the legality of politicing in a church. I also let her know I was sending the story to the address in this thread of the organization for seperation of church and state, and that I was contacting the IRS to have them check into this.

Also, I asked her, hasn't Jr. been serving in the House of Representatives for many years? What has he done while there? He keeps saying he wants to close the border to Mexico, fix social security, legislate better healthcare for the poor, etc., and I was wondering what bills he sponsored over the years in the house to get these things done?

After all, she is a "political reporter," and she should have the assets to find these things out right?

WHEN is the IRS going to put an end to their coddling of black democrats during election time? I'm so tired of them getting a pass when they blatantly campaign in churches. Our caucasion pastor has to do creative wordsmithing to avoid any hint of favoritism.

Yeah, the oddest commercial that Ford is running in TN states that " Bob Corker is a good man but he won't bring change. Send me to Washington and I'll work hard to make you proud".

Correct me if I'm wrong but Ford has been the one IN Washington for at least 3 terms. He's done squat.
