Get out and vote tomorrow! And tomorrow's HC live thread will continue ALL NIGHT LONG as the results come in, locally and nationwide.
I was in Vermont this weekend--Rutland, Manchester,
Middlebury, etc.--lovely scenery. Mountains, lakes,
farms. And lots of political yard signs and banners,
from both parties...Fmr Burlington mayor Bernie Sanders
(Socialist-Independent) is running for Senator (open
seat; Jim Jeffords leaving IIRC). I think the Republican
is Rich Tarrant ("Farm Country Is Tarrant Country").
Lots of political ads on TV and radio. There's "Bernie!",
cartpetbagger that he is, with his NYC accent (Hoy! Oym
Boynie Sandizz!)..other NY natives that made it big in
Vermont are the Ben and Jerry's guys and Howard Dean.
hi to all HC fans who listen on WVMT! I usually visit the
Burlington area but this time went to Rutland...
scenic Rt 30...
Walk around downtown
VT of course has its share of moonbats...I think it used
to be a Republican state (and still currently has a GOP
governor) but out-of-staters moved it leftward.
Does Bernie the Commie have a handle on the situation?
Or can he be had?
I was driving through Vermont a few weeks ago and was horrified to see nothing but signs for "Bernie". I have always been proud of the fact that America has never had a serious politicial party labeled "Socialist". It seems positively unAmerican for the Vermonters to embrace someone with that label.
I spent a good deal of my youth in Vermont, killing bambi and fishing, the natives were even crustier than NH'erites, though a Little more commie. The downfall came in 1967 when the commune was established in Island Pond. the descent to hell started.
In VT, I picked up the free-and-worth-it Seven Days newspaper (arts, entertainment etc.) and their political columnist was shocked,
shocked that the Burlington Free Press had endorsed Republican Tarrant over Saint Bernard. He even said Sanders stood for truth justice and the American way!
He said Tarrant was spending big bucks for an office
they didn't think he would win.
As I drove I saw some houses with all Dem. yard signs
and some with all Republican. Some signs for Tarrant,
lots of Bernie!s, etc.
btw Lt gov Brian Dubie (R, I believe) calls in to Howie
once in awhile.
In VT you can have a gov & Lt gov. of different parties.
Same in CT...when I took tour of CT state house, they
mentioned how Rell is Republican but her LtG is a Democrat.
In August of '91, VT's Richard Snelling (R) died of a heart
attack and was succeeded by a Democrat...guess who...
We're going to Burlington! And Brattleboro! And Waterbury!
Then we're going to Dorset! and Lyndonville! And
Shelburne! And then we're going to Montpelier to take
back the State House! Aaaaaaaaaargh!!!!
Indeed...
from wikpedia:
"James Merrill "Jim" Jeffords (born May 11, 1934 in Rutland, Vermont) is currently the junior U.S. Senator from Vermont and the only independent in the United States Senate. He served as a Republican until 2001. He has announced that he will retire at the end of his current term, in January 2007.
Steve "Psycho" Lyons to Red Sox Radio?
http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack/view.bg?articleid=165913
Well at least if he tries the drop-trou move again, it'll be on radio so you can't see him...
"We hear that Entercom is making a pitch for deposed Fox Sportscaster Steve Psycho Lyons to join the Red Sox radio broadcast next season. They want to make him the RemDawg of radio, said Someone Who Knows."
Lyons claims that his dismissal from Fox "backfired" on the network; that people who saw the game
in question didn't hear him say anything wrong, etc.
One of the radio broadcasters is rumoured to be out.
Trupiano I think(see ya!)
Yes, it was well known his contract would not be renewed.
Joe Castiglione and he had parting words for each other
("thanks for 14 great years") during the last Sox game.
From today's Herald: two brothers from Lynnfield push for us to celebrate Christmas and not "hhhhhhhhhhhhholiday..."

In case you didn't know, Boston apparently has a Question 4 on whether to get out of Iraq. I saw a nun from my church standing on Broadway with some other people and a big sign saying "South Boston residents against the war." Yecch! She seems so nice (I only know her to say hello to) that I kind of ducked away so as not to be drawn into a conversation. I went home by the other side of Broadway, where I was waylaid by an aging hippie-looking type, with a similar (but smaller -- after all, he was only one person) sign. He asked if I lived in Southie. Of course I said yes. He came toward me with a flier and asked me to vote Yes on Question 4. I just said, "Not a chance! Arabic's too hard for me!" and scurried on my way. He looked p*ssed!
Howie just read part of this Newsweek article on air--Kerry's flub...

Ballot questions? I'd vote yes on 1 and no on 2 and 3. I don't think Q1's passage would lead to an increase in drunk driving. Cities still control how many liquor licenses
are issued.
The anti- ad expresses fear that "gas station mini-marts
would next try to get licenses for beer". They already do.
One here in Beverly, a gas station & conv store has a liquor license and it sells beer and I believe wine too (some kind
of permission...)
I didn't know about the get out of Iraq question. I'd agree with you but I don't think it's on the ballot in Beverly.
