Pentagon Rebuts Editorial In 'Military Newspapers' Calling For Rumsfeld Resignation

The MSM has had a field day trumpeting an impending editorial in "military newspapers" calling for Defense Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation. But as NewsBusters John Stephenson and Michael Bates have documented here and here, here's what the liberal media didn't disclose:
- Despite the official-sounding ring of "military newspapers," these are commercial, private-sector operations owned by Gannett, the chain whose leading outlet is the left-leaning USA Today. The editorial was roughly as representative of the official military view on the Secretary as the New York Times' latest anti-Rumsfeld rant.
- While the MSM tried to multiply the significance of the editorial by mentioning that it was carried in four separate papers, representing the various branches of the military, again they are all just fellow members of the Gannett stable. It's as misleading as claiming that an article published in the various regional editions of TV Guide appeared in "hundreds of magazines..."

Do I detect a new 'do on N. Pelosi? Going for a "softer" look? I wonder if Mr. P does her any way except "rodeo" style?

Police "detain" Mike Stark at Allen rally in Virginia
posted at 4:23 pm on November 4, 2006 by Allahpundit
Send to a Friend | printer-friendlyWhom to believe? The guy who claims he fell down after being pushed? Or the guy who claims he didnt push anyone and was recently caught on camera pushing someone?
The incident occurred at the end of a rally at the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport after Allen supporters continually jockeyed to position themselves between Allen and Stark, who said he wanted to ask the senator about his arrest record. An Albemarle County court index book shows two summonses issued for Allen in 1974, but supporting documents were destroyed long ago. Allen has said he offenses were for fishing without a license and unpaid parking tickets.
As Stark tried to sidestep the human wall formed to shield Allen at Saturdays rally, he brushed past a person who then fell. A deputy sheriff grabbed Stark, put the mans arm behind his back and led him away to the cheers of about 100 Allen supporters.
Stark said as he was taken into the custody that he had heard the young man who fell tell another Allen supporter he planned to take a dive.
The person who fell refused to give his name or talk about the incident with a reporter.
Are there, could there possibly be, photos of this submoronic Michael Moore wannabe being cuffed and led away?
Oh yes, my friends. Oh yes.
Update: Did the AP reporter witness the incident? The piece doesnt say so; if not, how did he/she know that Stark brushed past?
Evening Hostess and All.
Did I see Drudge say folks were dancing in the streets of Iraq over the conviction?
If we accept the Democrat premise about Saddam, and we shouldn't have invaded Iraq how is it he's been convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death? Makes you wonder how they would've felt about Hilter.
Drudge talking about elections tonight. Any good talkers here might want to call him about this story, and this is the THIRD source I have read about re: this "rumor."
The Rumor About John Paul Stevens
by Sean Rushton
Posted Nov 04, 2006
For weeks, commentators have speculated that significant numbers of conservatives, alienated by over-spending, the Iraq War, and other perceived GOP disappointments, will stay home on Election Day, giving one or both Houses of Congress to Democrats. But for those who care about reforming the Supreme Court, sitting this one out may soon look like a mistake of historic proportions.
For the past several weeks, there has been a rumor circulating among high-level officials in Washington, D.C., that a member of the U.S. Supreme Court has received grave medical news and will announce his or her retirement by years end. While such rumors are not unusual in the nations capital, this one comes from credible sources. Additionally, a less credible but still noteworthy post last week at the liberal Democratic Underground blog says, Send your good vibes to Justice Stevens. I just got off the phone with a friend of his family and right now he is very ill and at 86 years old that is not good.
Normally, this news might be too ghoulish to repeat publicly. Nevertheless, with the election just days away, it is news that should be considered. It points out what could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the 20-year movement to recast the court with a constitutionalist majority. It would be a cruel twist indeed for conservatives to teach Republicans a lesson next Tuesday, only to be taught a lesson themselves within months when new Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D.-Vt.) leads a Democratic majority against the most important Supreme Court nominee in decades. Conservatives whose mantra is no more Souters should bear in mind Robert Borks fate after the Senate changed from Republican to Democratic hands in 1986.
