If only one thing comes out of the midterm elections this coming Tuesday, it ought to be this: The nation is tired of polemics and ideological politics. It's time for politicians on both the right and the left to move back toward the center, and come up with practical solutions to the serious problems the nation faces:
How to get out of the mess in Iraq.
How to pay for the baby-boomers' medical care and Social Security costs.
How to meet the undeniable challenge of global warming.
How to bring the budget back into balance without shredding the safety net for the poor and needy.
And that's just the beginning of a list filled with issues that don't have any easy solutions.
Since the 1994 election of the Newt Gingrich Republicans, the nation's politics have been defined by ideology and partisanship. The divide became even nastier and more partisan with the election of George W. Bush, arguably the most ideological president in modern U.S. history.
This newspaper believed that Bush's 2000 victory over Democrat Al Gore was so close and so controversial that Bush should have moved toward the center

3 - passed the McCain-Feingold CFR bill
But then they didn't like that one either because it didn't get Limbaugh off the air or shut down Fox or prevent the Swifties from doing their thing on Kerry in 2004
Solution: Win by continuing to decimate the enemy, then turn control over to the Iraqi people in a carefully timed and secure transition. That is the path we are on now. We have a lot to be proud of.
How to pay for the baby-boomers' medical care and Social Security costs.
(There's that scumbag socialist "liberal" template again - - who says government should pay for medical care and social security in the first place?) Solution: Privatize.
How to meet the undeniable challenge of global warming.
Solution: Solve this problem the same way "global cooling" was solved in the '70s. Then get a life and get a clue - - the whole "global warming" scam is an "undeniable" front for the anti-capitalist global socialists. Kyoto, anyone?
How to bring the budget back into balance without shredding the safety net for the poor and needy.
Solution: Continue to cut taxes. It's worked every time it's been tried. Tax revenues are way up, employment is way down, the deficit is shrinking, and the economy is roaring. Dole out welfare with serious controls, conditions, and limits.

Why am I absolutely certain that the scumbag Democrat editors at Newsweak will remain confounded?
Yeah, and I can argue that the Dolphins are the best team in the NFL today.. sheesh, with utter stupidity like this, how can you even begin to consider the rest of this drivel?
Ah Andy since 2004. So the Democrats are still batting a perfect ZERO.
There is no premise presented in this article with which I can agree. Not worth reading their justification.
Of course Johnnie.
I have not seen such obstruction from a political party since..... Well Tom Daschle and we saw what happened to him.
Their history is way off.
The bitter partisanship of our current era is a direct consequence of the politics of the "New Left" which has been adopted by the leftists who animate the Democratic party.
The Clinon Democrats and their allies the more leftwing Deaniacs and moveon.org and the rest of them practice the politics of personal destruction, the politics of ideological no-hold-barred lie-if-you-must ends-justify-means combat. They beleive in activism in all its forms. Jesse Jackson will march, will threaten companies for shakedowns, etc.
Didnt we just go through a Demo operative trying to crash into Allen's campaign, another case of a Dem operative stalking Allen at stops? or the fact that the Foley revelation was engineered by CREW, a liberal soros-funded outfit? Or that we have had repeated example of Democrats bashing the military as a way to bash the Bush administration, willing to undermine the troops time and again and hurt our foreign policy out of partisanship.
They put partisanship over patriotism and consider their real enemies not the terrorists but conservatives and Republicans.
This bitter politics has existed since the 1960s because of the new left. Only recently has the right gotten the gumption to fight this on its own terms.
