Chaffee seat still very much in play

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that it will KILL me to pull the lever for Linc Chaffee but that being said with the House already gone this race will be vital to maintaining control of the Senate. Polling has consistently shown Whitehouse with a lead between 8 and 14 points but I have always insisted that this will be a photo finish due to the fact that Whitehouse is an unlikeable schmuck whose body of work as the AG is unimpressive to say the least. The rumor has been that internal polling for this race show it being not only within the margin of error but more likely a dead heat and the Mason/Dixon poll seems to confirm the latter. More of this is the fact that a large rally was held yesterday featuring Barack Obama, what's he doing here with this seat already in the Dem's back pocket?? This is why I think Chaffee can pull this off.

Question 1 - If Q1 passes it would allow the Narragansett Indian Tribe to partner with Harrah's entertainment in bringing a massive Casino to West Warwick RI. This question has been down in the polls by 10-20 pts and will be a calling card for Republican voter turn out. Also note that Whitehouse shot himself in the foot at the last debate by claiming he would repeal the Chaffee rider that keeps the Narragansetts from building a Casino on Tribal land in the Southern RI. The Southern part of the RI is Chaffee territory and this will definitely push voters from sending Bush a message to sending Whitehouse a message.

The Governors Race - Incumbant Don Carcieri is a conservative Republican who has been polling betwenn 8 and 11 pt's ahead of his challenger Lt.Gov. Charles Fogarty.

Whitehouse's message - strictly Anti-Bush. Sheldon has went all-in hoping that Bush's unpopularity in RI will get him to Washington. This gamble isn't working and the Dem's will be sitting around on Wednesday wondering how they let this seat get away.

Also you can't underestimate the power of "name recognition" for an incumbent.

Sure those polled say they'll vote a certain way, but the "uninformed masses" (and unfortunately they make up much of the voting population) get to the polling place, look at the ballot and say, "Yeah, Chaffee, I've heard of him."

This type of situation might affect the vote.

They want it so badly - and if they don't get it there will be riotous Hippies protesting in the streets....mabe even some of them wanting to PUNCH people. That's right. You have to look at it not as a vote for Chaffee, but as a vote to keep Republicans in control of the Senate agenda and all the Senate committees.

Most important, it's a vote to get another Roberts or Alito in the Supreme Court despite Chaffee's obstructionism. If Democrats control the Senate, another nominee in the mold of Roberts or Alito will never be voted out of committee let alone be put to the entire Senate for a vote.

Paradoxically, only a vote FOR Chaffee is a vote AGAINST most of what Chaffee represents.

I admire your optimism but I'm afraid that I don't share it.
While there is going to be no Dem "wave" on Tuesday the idea that we'll be able hold our losses to under 15 seats is unrealistic.

We are seeing this everywhere. Surprise, surprise. Just like I freakin' told everyone two weeks ago The polls were, and remain, bogus, but they have to close the gap.

DeWine now according to a poll down "only" six in OH. Don't believe it. He's probably at -2 or -3, and will win it on turnout, because our turnout models are showing the GOP WELL ABOVE 2002!!!

Last night we had word that Kennedy was moving fast on the internals in MN; and even (gasp) SANTORUM is starting to move.

ALL our early voting and absentee voting is saying BIG GOP TURNOUT.

The Dems are going to be suicidal on 11/8. We will GAIN seats in the Senate and break even, or gain a single seat in the House.

Anger, yes, but that doesn't translate into voting. We saw that in 2004. The Dems were mad as hell, but they didn't turn out. Our peeps do!
