"What would happen if the Democrats win?" House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., asked in an essay for National Review, a conservative publication. His ominous take is that taxes would be higher, the mission in Iraq would "be damned" and San Franciscan Nancy Pelosi, as the new speaker, would be "leading the culture war."
With Election Day on Tuesday, the Republican pitch is aimed at rallying the GOP's dispirited voters and convincing them that they must cast ballots because of the high stakes.
The bedrock of the Republican Party, conservatives have been irritated with President Bush and the GOP-controlled Congress for making little progress on their social agenda and fiscal priorities.

Are we "dispirited"?
NO, NO, NO!
Get out and vote Republican!
I thought "Forbes" was a conservative magazine!
Oh, I forgot. The reporters are all still liberal.
It's an AP article. They go on and on about how upset conservatives are because of Foley -- they are trying to tell conservatives how they should act.
Don't forget all the folks who are supposed to stay home and not vote because of what the evangelical minister in CO supposedly did!
We are NOT lackluster, many of us are highly motivated and energized.
Well it's obvious! The Democrats will win. They have the advantage! Fred Barnes and Mort Kondrake said so. As have CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC...etc.
So why bother?
Oh, wait...I know this one. Because none of them no what they're talking about and have a long history of predicting GOP defeat?
I'm so tired already of all the pre-mortum's being done, explaining why the GOP lost one or both houses, when we haven't even had an election yet.
The GWoT aside, that kind of arrogance...that telling me who's already "won" before a single vote is cast...THAT'S enough to motivate me into "prove them all wrong" mode. We've done it before...and quite recently too.
The exit polls all predicted John "Three Purple Hearts/I was for the joke that insulted the troops before I was against it" Kerry would be residing in the White House right now.
Last I checked, the Oval Office was delightfully D.E.M. (Defeatist/Elitist/Minority Opinion) free.
I thought most conservative bills came from the house, not from the senate? And also the conservative bills that stuck were because the senate didn't act on them? So far, it seems that we're going to punish the wrong guy.
And you do this by putting more liberals in power?
Putting more liberals in power, or keeping more liberals in power? That is the question. I guess the answer lies in ones taste for liberals, D or R. One way, you get exactly what you expect, the other you get knives in your back. Some of US have no problem with knives in our backs, some of US do. Blackbird.
You're a lib troll. Go climb back into your dem hole. Go to YouTube for a minute and tell me that the latest ad for the Pubs doesn't scare you straight.
I was volunteering at my local congresscritter's campaign office yesterday, and everyone was pumped up and exhuberant to the max.
Of course our Republican Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick is a fabulous conservative.
There were dozens of young people from the Catholic University, who went out all day knocking on doors and calling on phones, reminding people to come out to vote on Tuesday.
Today, there will be a dedication to a NEW national cemetery for Veterans, and although John McCain will be here to speak (he's not my favorite), I cant help but think that McCain will spur even more support for Fitzpatrick.
Care to enlighten us on your specific Representative, and US Senator whom you seem to despise.
In other words, where do you live?
Straight R's and ousted our rat judges in SoFlo.
Yeah, I want to punish the RINO R's in government. So I'll oust them in the primaries just like the system is set up to work.
check out 7 and 11
Is YOUR Congressman/woman a RINO to the extreme? Otherwise what you are saying doesn't make much sense.
And even if your Representative is somewhat of a RINO are you really prepared to allow Nancy Pelosi and her agenda (which will make any RINO look like a far right winger) to prevail? The Constitutional party isn't going to win, and I'll guarantee you if the GOP lose, and then finds a way to take it back later, it will have even more RINOs than now.
If you are truly concerned about spending and the size of the budget then surely you remember the last time the Dims had the House. They'll be spending like dunk sailols at a whore house on every social program they can concieve. Oh, they'll cut spending too...at the Pentagon and on other national security areas. And the money they can't raise they just tax in a way that doesn't affect their own base, but will affect your own pocketbook.
The US is a wealthy country. We can propbably survive a bigger debt. What we may not survive is the turmoil that would break out if the Dims forced us to put our tails between our legs and leave Iraq the way we left Vietnam. Iraq is a LOT more dangerous to our security than Vietnam ever was. Surely our exit would mean Iran's entrance.
Think twice before you pull that lever. It's like the old diet saying..."A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips." Once you allow the Dims back into the henhouse it's going to be mighty tough to get them out. One, two, or three election cycles won't do it. 98% of House Members get re-elected in a non-wave cycle. I'm not ready for another 40 year Dim rule. Are you?
As incumbents become quite entrenched, it is sometimes necessary to replace them with a 'rat so there is a chance for a more conservative (R) to appear sooner rather than later. Linc Chaffee would be the best example. 2006 is not the best time however. 2008 will be an exciting time.
Apparently, a more conservative(R) did appear, and he lost the primary.
The GOP base has been very PO'd with this congress for many good reasons, but turning the country over to the RATS is just plain treason. I would hope that fellow FRs vote to stop the RATS but let the GOP know you are voting against something and not for the continuation of the past.
