Iraq urges calm ahead of Saddam verdict
By CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer 38 minutes ago
SNIP
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister on Saturday urged his countrymen to accept the impending verdict against Saddam Hussein without violence, then in the next breath declared the former dictator must get "what he deserves" with the decision that could send him to the gallows.

Someone at DU suggested that it was unusual for courts to be in session on Sunday. I'm wondering if it's the same rocket scientist who claimed the "Jon Carry" banner was photoshopped "because there are no trees in the desert".
Yep, they want to lead the nation.

I'd like to see him in the wood chipper, feet first.

He was accorded a hell of a lot more "freedom" than he would have been in an American court.

Someone on TV asked the same question. They said that the weekend in Iraq was Friday and Saturday.

Are you old enough to know about shmoos, or did you find them by accident, after they were introduced?
Thanks for the url. :-)

It's probably due to the fact that Saddam wasn't particularly religious until he was pulled out of his hole. Now he carries a Quran with him everywhere he goes and praises Allah. It's something of a joke. Yes, but "born-again" is a phrase specific to the Christian religion. There's no similar redemption analogue in Islam.

88. I don't know why , but I feel sad about this.
I was expecting Saddam would get the death penalty, but for some reason it saddens me. Must be depressed hearing nothing but death all the time. I just don't know.

In the Middle East, Sunday is a work day for Jews and Muslims. Jews celebrate Shabbat from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. Muslims celebrate their day of rest on Friday.

Now I get it. John Kerry's message was to Saddam. If only Saddam had studied harder he wouldn't be stuck between Iraq and a hard place.

Now, the celebrations of the Iraqi people can begin in earnest! Oh, they are celebrating. I just had to move my laptop. They told us to get away from the windows.
Celebratory gunfire going on all over the place...even INSIDE THE GREEN ZONE.
