That's fine for you or me. But we are not in the majority of the voters that vote on such issues. And, you will note, some of the more ludicrous amendments of recent years got on the ballot (and succeeded) because of the efforts and money of special interest groups originating outside of Florida. They come in with a lot of money and well staffed organizations and push these issues through from A to Z.
When I was living there, I don't care how I felt about the issue or intent of the amendment, if I didn't believe it to be a constitutional issue, I voted against it.
The man/woman marriage issue is most certainly a constitutional issue, in my layman's opinion.
