My wife tells me it's one of the Two Things Guys Are Useful For:

1. Heavy Lifting
2. Grunting

No kidding. "Hey Hon, could you help us out here, we need some grunting and heavy lifting done."

So if this guy was doing both heavy lifting and grunting, he's merely demonstrating his Guy-ness.
