Isn't grunting a safety measure when lifting heavy weight? Especially free weights? The last thing you ever want to do is hold your breath?
In my (long-gone) lifting days I remember guys that would really let loose from the lungs but we would just go back to our own sets.
Let's hope that's what the D's are saying on Wednesday morning (Nov 8th).
Excellent idea. I don't see any prohibition of that in the rules
We are so committed to being judgement free that if you break the slightest of our many obscure rules, we will immediately call the cops!
...grunting is a natural noise that occurs under heavy strain with a great number of people.

Exactly. I consider myself rather ladylike, but if I have been known to grunt when lifting something very, very heavy. At the gym, it is not a problem because I work on the machines, and I don't go that far beyond my comfort zone in terms of weights.
I think what another freeper said here is true. Grunting is seen as too male, and, therefore, would be viewed as intimidating to the women in the place (to the girly men, too, I suppose.)
Interesting side note: I recall reading something quite a number of years ago about a study that looked at what role was played by grunting in the lifting of a heavy object. The study concluded that the grunting actually helped the lifter to perform better.
ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL....I have tears now!!!!!!!!! ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLLLl
In a related story the Albany Professional Tennis Players Tournament has been cancelled. LOL!
I heard this on the TV. I can't believe it is true. My sister in law was giving great end-of-life are to her mom, the nurse who taught her about lifting mom up and down told her to grunt, that it actually helps when lifting.
Planet Fitness is a grunt free zone.
What a pussified country we've become.
".. Planet Fitness strives to promote health in a respectful atmosphere. For over a decade, Planet Fitness has gone to great lengths to provide its members with a friendly space to work out. We call it the Judgment Free Zone. We discourage weight dropping and obnoxious grunting so you can focus on your own workout and not the person next to you..."
The former ex-manager of my gym, a young chickie a few years out of college, once posted a sign about grunting and sweating - not explicitly verbotten, but strongly discouraged. At the same time, she played her godawful CDs on the PA system, full, yes of grunting, something that sounded like stadion singalongs or drunken fratboys, obnoxious rap and computer driven disco - no accoustic or manually operated instruments. When I described it to a musician friend, he said, oh yes, that's 'techno', but later when I complained to her about her 'techno', she said, oh, no, that's not technio, that's "house music". House music? What's that? In any case, it was worse than sweat or grunts!
I have a plan to reduce finger fat, only $19.99.
I understand the Scientologists do that. It disturbs the babies vibes or something.
Why does my hometown always find its way into the news for things like this?
