The New Yorks times confirms that in 2002 Saddam Hussein's "scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away:"
Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Husseins scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.
Had the United States not eliminated this threat, today we would be facing a nuclear armed Iraq and possibly a nuclear armed Iran.

You wrote, "Is the NYT so committed to destroying Bush that the didn`t understand that this story vindicates the war?"
This news was bound to come out, either by the NYT or some other--perhaps even a slightly more pro-Bush--MSM outlet. If this story has legs, the NYT wants to 're-frame' the news in the most negative way possible in order to stifle its effect: 'Yes, Saddam was close to realizing the bomb BUT the Bush administration has been so lax in safeguarding captured Iraqi nuclear documents that it has advanced Iranian research by several years.'
The NYT headline won't be 'BUSH RIGHT ABOUT SADDAM WMD THREAT', but rather, 'BUSH GIVES IRAN NUKE PROGRAM BIG BOOST'.
That's my take on things, anyway.

"Hmmm... wonder what Red Ned Lamont will say about this tomorrow? ;-D"
Don't know, but Paul Newman can hand him some salad dressing. Newman has come out in support of Lamont. (Shocked! Shocked, I say!)

Sure, that`s what the NYT wants the story to be, but, Sen. Carry was telling a joke. Sometimes even the NYT is stupid. The best thing the Rats can do with this is to do what Jon Carry should have done --SHUT UP

Good to see ya, Tx. I think the NY Times arrogantly believes it can control the shape of the story. I'm going to wait until tomorrow before I make a decision on their rationale. This is going to be an interesting weekend I think. Good to hear from you. :0)

I apologize for not being under the delusion that the NYT's would print an article a week before an election that Saddam Hussein had nukes in 2002. The article doesn't say Hussein had was a year away from nukes in 2002. The article is a NYT's hit piece on Bush and the war, and you seem to enjoy defending it.

Too bad the NYT is a worthless rag. But if you wait upon the Treason Media to print the truth about anything which is not attacking the President or the GOP you are going to have a long wait. Expect a boring life.
