Maui-based Pacific Biodiesel will begin construction in December on its 11th biodiesel plant.
The plant will be located in Brooklyn, N.Y., the first "urban" facility built by Pacific Biodiesel in the U.S.
Pacific Biodiesel is building the plant for Tri-State Biodiesel, one of several clients that have paid the Maui business over the past decade to build a biodiesel facility. It will be Tri-State's first biodiesel plant, and is expected to produce about 5 million gallons of biodiesel per year.
Pacific Biodiesel was founded by Maui residents Bob and Kelly King in 1996. They are considered among the world's pioneers in biodiesel technology.
Biodiesel runs inside any diesel engine and can be made from several different "feed stocks," such as soybeans or peanuts. All of the fuel at the Brooklyn plant, however, will be made from restaurant grease, which is also the feedstock supplying Pacific Biodiesel's plants on Maui and Oahu.

Rest in Peace, old friend, your work is finished.......
Diesel "Ping" List: If you want on or off the DIESEL "KNOCK" LIST just FReepmail me........
"All of the fuel at the Brooklyn plant, however, will be made from restaurant grease..."
If they throw in illegal restaurant workers, I'll consider investing!
Just a minor correction.
"It will be Tri-State's first biodiesel plant". There's actually a plant in Newark, NJ (also in an urban area). I believe its called "Environmental Alternatives".
That's grease, not greasers!........
Yes, fish waste have lots of oils. People tend to forget that animal fats can be used in diesels, too..........
But I'd hate to think what the exhaust from fish oils would smell like..............Blind man: Good morning ladies!.........
