Senator Kerry's comments about uneducated people being "stuck" in Iraq essentially calling the men and women of the American military stupid is one of the political blunders of the age. Seldom does a candidate single-handedly sink his party once, let alone twice, though William Jennings Bryan came close. Mr. Kerry may have done so.
Worse, it's simply not right to promote the idea that soldiers are dumb or even undereducated. New York Times reporter Chris Hedges asserted, "poor kids from Mississippi who could not get a decent job joined the Army because it was all we offered them." In reality, however, the American military yes, even the foot soldiers is the most educated in history and better educated than the American public on average. Annually, thousands of top honor students take the military entrance exams. The recruitment test, which all inductees must pass, includes questions that many Ph.D.s would miss, and I would gladly hold a contest pitting any 10 American Army soldiers, randomly selected, against any 10 public school teachers on a standardized test.

"I think the feds hanging Kerry in town square would be good for another 10 points."
If Kerry continues to mouth off about our troops, he might find himself tarred and feathered by a bunch Fathers and Grandparents of our warriors. A lot of us owe him one for his acts of treason after his short tour in Nam.
Great article.
John Kerry once again reminds us what is great about free speech; it is easier to spot the idiots.
Thanks for the ping, definitely good use of a ping!
Good article.
It's GREAT....someone needs to get it to Rush!
Kerry is shown leading his fellow hate America and our military Rats to their final destination in American Politics:
Great editorial. A few years ago Donna Shalala, a Clinton cabinet official,(and currently President of the University of Miami) said the Viet Nam vets were the "dregs of society", and the only reason we were drafted was because of our social status at that time. The pattern continues with Kerry, et.al. At times, I wish I had been born with the proverbial silver spoon in my mouth, but in more ways than not, I'm kind of glad I wasn't. I guess it is because I appreciate the things I have, a good loving family, a wonderful nation where I'm free, and the best damn Armed Forces in the world protecting us. To hell with John Kerry and his fellow losers, I'd rather be in Iraq instead of in his shoes any day of the year!
It's a great piece, particularly in providing the perspective on patriot soldiers throughout our history. LS Smackdown!
BTTT
That's setting the bar low, isn't it, Larry?
Congratulations, LS.
Extremely well written, and also extremely timely and insightful.
As a recent retiree, I can vouch for the awesome intellect and creativity of our troops. Being a part of their team is one of the greatest honors life will ever bestow upon me.
It's the Kerry's of the world who are the incompetents.
I would gladly take any random NCO or officer in the military and put him in the Senate in Kerry's place and get more production, ability, loyalty, and integrity out of them than Kerry could offer in a hundred lifetimes.
Wow, excellent article. Congratulations. I will be sure to pick it up on my way out today. I love how you included the part about 535 members of the house and senate having children in the military. It's a tired old mantra of the left how no Republicans, no members of congress, no wealthy people have children in the military.
Spread the word! This can get thousands out to vote...

Nice job of stating the case, LS.
Plus, providing examples of test questions is an excellent way of putting the reader into the shoes of the soldier (or pol). Excellent!
