"Bomb blast before Bush visit"
11/11/2006 - 11:07:07

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A bomb exploded at an American fast food restaurant in the capital of the world's most populous Muslim nation today, seriously wounding one person believed to be carrying the device, police and witnesses said.

Indonesia has been hit by a series of deadly bombings by al-Qaida-linked militants, separatists and criminal gangs in recent years, and police said it was too early to speculate on the motive."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The lunchtime blast cracked a window and shattered lamps at the A&W burger restaurant in an eastern Jakarta shopping mall rarely visited by foreigners."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A restaurant employee said staff had seen a man outside the eatery who looked seriously ill, and brought him inside to offer him food or medicine. A small bomb then fell from his bag and went off, said A&W cashier Sofyan, who uses only name."

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to headoff potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

"Regions beef up security after E. Jakarta bombing"
Prodita Sabarini, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "While the police were still investigating the motives behind the Saturday bombing in East Jakarta, and whether the suspect belonged to any radical groups, other regions beefed up security.

The steel-industry town of Cilegon in Banten, for example, dispatched more police personnel to guard shopping malls and housing complexes.

Bomb-torn Bali warned its residents, especially hotel managers, restaurant owners, and people who run entertainment venues and boarding houses, to be more vigilant."

ARTICLE SNIPPET #2: "Police say the suspect was injured when he set off a low-explosive blast in an American fast food restaurant in Plaza Kramat Jati Indah shopping mall. No one else was injured in the explosion.

The suspect, known by his neighbors in East Jakarta's Bidara Cina subdistrict as a quiet electronics repairman, regained consciousness late on Saturday.

The homemade low-grade explosive, consisting of a pipe filled with gunpowder and buckshot pellets, went off at the A&W restaurant on the mall's ground floor. The attack came about one week before U.S. President George W. Bush's planned visit to Bogor, south of Jakarta."
