Jihadi websites and forums are studying and translating the texts of Western analysts who assess current counter-terrorism efforts.

Yep, loose lips sink ships - still a valid comment. But, by the same token, what's good for the goose - is exactly what we're doing with their texts, transmissions, videos and what we see via satellite. They have reason to fear, and today possibly more than ever before because they don't know how Mr. Rumsfeld's replacement will go after them. Eagerly would be my best guess.

Jihad maintains network in Bethlehem

Snip: Israeli security sources said the Iranian-sponsored Jihad has established a network in Bethlehem, adjacent to Jerusalem. The sources said Jihad used Bethlehem as a launching pad for attacks on Jewish commuters to Jerusalem.

Islamic cyber rogues threaten Vatican site

Snip: Muslim hackers allegedly supporting al-Qaeda have announced - for the second time in a month - a planned attack on the Vatican's official website. The assault has been planned by Islamist cyber-rogues for Thursday 9 November at 12 am Mecca time (10 am in Italy). The announcement was made on Wednesday through the creation of an ad hoc site where hackers can download programmes to start the internet attack. "The leadership of the electronic Jihad has decided to undertake a grand attack against the official Vatican site following the insults by the Pope against our Prophet," read a statement.

"With Allah's blessing, the attack will succeed thanks to the help of our brothers if we all attack simultaneously. We ask all our brothers to be present at the hour of the attack for a joint action, because they (Catholics) have struck our religion. They must be fought and deserve to be attacked and not only on their internet site," the statement continued.

Americans second

Snippets: Maybe not. A new poll of American Muslims paints a considerably less rosy picture of their assimilation.

One notable finding was that a large majority of respondents (214 out of 307) consider themselves to be not Americans first, but Muslims first and foremost. This mirrors similar findings in Western Europe, where 81 percent of British Muslims considered themselves Muslims first, and citizens of Great Britain second. Or perhaps third. They weren't asked to specify.

Nothing to concern ourselves about, right? Wrong. If the top brass of al Qaeda, Hamas and Hezbollah had taken the same poll, the responses would not have differed much. Those Muslim Americans polled overwhelmingly said that the U.S. government was at war with Islam, that it had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, but allowed the attacks to occur anyway, and that the U.S. was wrong to invade Afghanistan after 9/11.

It gets worse. A majority said violence against U.S. troops on American soil and against U.S. officials is justified "in retaliation for the American government's actions in the Muslim world," sentiments that, in another time and place, would have qualified as treasonous. Perhaps most disturbingly, a clear majority said Iran "should develop nuclear weapons," weapons that could one day be turned against the U.S. or its allies.
