We just didn't gage the depth of anger at Bush and Republicans over the Iraq situation. It should be clear that the electorate has no stomach for fighting a long, drawn-out war where the perception is that we are not making any headway. Wrapping that war up quickly, hopefully in a decisive manner in our favor, has to be the number one thing to do if we are to have any hope in '08, because it is clear that the media will not give us any kind of favorable coverage if things keep going as they are.
I'm afraid that the country made that decision last night. We give up.
Hang in there buddy, I too thought we'd win. But we've got two years of hard work ahead of us so stay energized.
Let's remember too that we've got 49 seats in the Senate. If the President is impeached, which had been a fear of mine, he won't be removed from office. And he's still the most powerful man in the nation. His veto power is what we need right now. If the left threats to defund our troops, defund the border wall, get rid of the NSA program, he can veto the budget and shut everything down. And in the Senate if the democrats threat to use th filibuster on nomminees, we can filibuster and shut the entire senate down. Let's keep on the President and GOP leaders, and we'll survive the next couple of years. Take care.
Thanks for your thread, Rob. Your predictions made a lot of sense. We'll be back on top in '08. Keep the faith!
You've got nothing to be sorry for...
I followed this with interest. Thanks. I think that the best news is that we still have the justice department. We should use it to take Acorn and leakers down.
The only good thing is that the Dems now have to DO something other than whine. Both history and the media were on the Dems' side.
Last night felt like 1986 all over again. But we returned. We lost two especially good men, Santorum and Allen (as it now appears). I'm heartsick.
I am so ashamed of Virginia, thanks to all these yuppies who've moved into Fairfax and the other DC suburban counties. AND two who live in my house who I might not speak to for a while ;)
Let us pray the electorate is equally fed up with the Dems in two years.
Last night's lesson was the polls were right after all.
Of the polls, Mason Dixon is still the best. Follwed by Raz. Survey USA issued some warning signs about JD Hayworth and Anne Northup. Also, they called the MN-06 perfectly. However Survey USA was off in the Florida Governor race.
Change, in particular, on the Iraq war, which a few (much criticized) freepers predicted would only put Shi'ite Islamofascists in power and backfare generally.
Perhaps this clear vote has opened the door for conservatives to take a second look at candidates such as Chuck Hegel, a pro-smaller government/Iraq war critic.
That's Hagel, not Hegel.
You have nothing to apologize for. This was an election in which the dynamics changed from previous elections. I think the mush heads in the middle didn't break our way, and they have been doing so since 1994. They actually went into the booth and pulled for the Dems, something I never expected. I expected that the mush heads would tell pollsters one thing and do another. This time, they didn't. No way to know that in advance.
It seems that some people in our RNC Voter Vault decided to give San Francisco Values a go. Yuck.
With the level of enemy that we have in the radical Islamics (and I believe ultimately the ChiComms as well), either we fight to win...or we lose. They will see it that way and will bring it home to us if we attempt to disengage.
We need to fight harder and more fiercly against the enemy...no more PC, take them down easy. We should have, from the get go, pacified the areas of resistance with extreme prejudice. I am afraid we will still come to that...but now it will be only after a much, much greater cost.
Many of us underestimated the anti-Iraq sentiment.
..We regroup and attack again!
Predicting elections, like any skill, comes through trial-and-error and gaining experience. And you don't learn anything without having some guts in your guesses. Thank you for maintaining your ping list and ginning up discussion over this season. I appreciated your keeping the conversation going.
You have nothing to apologize for. I mande many of the same predictions. The biggest dissapointment is the loss of Jim Talent, who has one of the sharpest minds on Capitol Hill.
It has to be the only answer, because I kept relying on the turnout numbers, which were all in our favor. Unfortunately, they did NOT vote for our guys.
And we turned out our voters in record numbers . . . but they voted for the wrong guys.
