WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The White House continued to hammer on Sen. John Kerry Wednesday, with Vice President Dick Cheney leading off a second day of criticism of the Massachusetts Democrat.
***
Bush mentioned the controversy during a campaign speech in Georgia, and Cheney picked up the baton Wednesday with remarks prepared for a rally in Montana later in the day. "Well, apparently Senator Kerry's the one who needs to be educated," Cheney said in excerpts of remarks prepared for delivery at the event. "Of course, now Senator Kerry says he was just making a joke, and he botched it up. I guess we didn't get the nuance. He was for the joke before he was against it." The White House released the excerpts of Cheney's remarks, something it rarely does. Less than a week ahead of the election, the heated back-and-forth over the remarks could help GOP candidates drive home their view that the Democrats aren't as tough on national security issues. "Is it convenient for us? Politics is politics," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Wednesday. "We didn't have anything to do with the timing of Senator Kerry's comments."
*** "Two words are sufficient to convey an apology: I'm sorry," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "It's really easy to say, 'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend the troops.'" Kerry, addressing the matter Tuesday, declined to apologize for criticizing Bush and said, "I'm not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium." The matter will be raised during President Bush's interview Wednesday with Rush Limbaugh.

Dang, I wish Cheney was running in 2008!! He's da man! ;-)
(And Lynn's da lady--you go, both of you with your bad selfs!)
:-)
The entire Dem Party should be shunned for rooting for the enemy for 3 years running.
In Kerry's world, other people are stuffed suits and he's the laid-back regular guy.
"I wish that cowardly, traitorous, French poodle, son of a b*tch was here right now. I'd deck his scrawny *ss myself!"
No. Not really a quote, just a fantasy.
"I guess we didn't get the nuance. He was for the joke before he was against it."
That's good.
Kerry's too stupid to get it, Tony -- but it was nice of you to try...
Classic Cheney.
"Of course, now Senator Kerry says he was just making a joke, and he botched it up. I guess we didnt get the nuance. He was for the joke before he was against it."
What about an apology of all his earlier comments denigrating our troops? E.g., terrorizing Iraqis...
No, no, no. We need to be calling Kerry's office urging him to stick to his guns and not apologize, and get back out on the campaign trail.
Unless you're Fonzie Kerry, in which case you're too cool to say it.
I heard that both the President and Vice-President were going to be in Montana this week. Anyway Tester may call for an apology from Kerry. However, the voters of montana must be remined that a vote for Tester is a vote for Kerry, Kennedy Reid and Clinton. This could seal the election for Senator Burns.
See my post above.
ROFLMAO!
And he was against the apology before he was for it.
