Kerry's 'stuck in Iraq' remark ignites firefight with Bush, GOP
BOSTON GLOBE ^ | 1 November 2006 | Rick Klein

WASHINGTON -- President Bush joined prominent Republicans yesterday in blasting Senator John F. Kerry for comments they said demeaned the intelligence of US troops, after Kerry gave a speech at a political rally where he said that students who don't perform well "get stuck in Iraq."

But Kerry, insisting the comment was a "botched joke," struck back with a furious, nationally televised press conference at which he attacked the entire GOP for divisive campaign tactics.

Other John Kerry 'botched jokes':

"And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the – of – the historical customs, religious customs," Kerry said. "Whether you like it or not ... Iraqis should be doing that."

"They told stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country,"

There he goes again, accusing OTHERS what HE routinely DOES.

Yeah, who can forget his lies about Viet Nam?

I hope he keeps it up. He'll lose for sure.

And the Kerry loving Globe is the only outlet I've seen who prefaces the Kerry quote with the following: "At a rally at Pasadena City College in California on Monday, Kerry delivered a series of one-liners that ended with one that drew as many gasps as laughs."

Makes monkeys out of Chris Matthews, etal, who try to spin that Bush and Republicans are the only ones who didn't understand this was a joke. The Globe makes it clear even the audience thought Kerry was insulting soldiers.

If it was a "botched joke" why call a press conference to lash out at President Bush and Rush Limbaugh? Even for Jean Francois, the response was overkill.

Tactical mistake? Kerry couldn't help saying what he said. Karl Rove switched on that little chip in Kerry's brain and bingo, Kerry starts making stupid comments!

FWIW, we always have the radio on here in the AM (as I get us all out the door)...listening to KDKA-AM and their top of the newscast story is this Kerry fiasco (and mentioning the Burgh connect of Teresa Heinz). Their reporter did a live, on-the-street type interview of random people in Pittsburgh's Market Square. All sounded insulted, angry that the troops had been dissed...one said 'he should know better than to talk like that.'

Came to FR to see what else was being said about it...it seems pretty HUGH here (mebbe help Rick Santorum...why oh why couldn't Johnnie and Terrie Kerry have campaigned for Casey?)

Easy. The simple question is, "Do you want to see this man (John Kerry) on TV everyday?? -- the same question as in the 2004 election.

His comment is relevant because it shows the real face of the Demonrat party. He was their nominee in 2004, he and his ilk are what the Demonrats have to offer. No respect for the military and nothing to offer but pacifism that threatens are security. Kerry just messed up again in saying aloud what the Demonrats try to disguise.
