Did John Kerry (D-Mass.) help himself in his Seattle news conference this afternoon to explain his astonishing remarks yesterday which sounded like an elitist shot at the intelligence of members of the U.S. military serving in Iraq? Short answer: no.
An angry Kerry tried to give his supporters and Democrats something to fight back with when he said: My statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full well, was a botched joke about the president and the presidents people, not about the troops.
If anyone thinks that a veteran, someone like me whos been fighting my entire career to provide for veterans to fight for their benefits, to help honor what their service is, if anybody thinks that a veteran would somehow criticize more than 140,000 troops fighting in Iraq and not the president and his people who put them there, theyre crazy. Its just wrong .
But heres the problem. In his moment of high dudgeon, he may have made matters worse. It probably wasnt a good idea to accuse everyone who saw the video of his campaign appearance and thought he was disparaging the IQ of U.S. troops of being crazy.

It's so good to see you posting, cajungirl. This is the best Halloween present we could have received.
The ONLY way Kerry's gaff could be taken as a joke...it was the first thing out of his mouth. He doesn't have the personality for humor, not like President Bush who is a sweet heart that way.
This is the best entertainment in years.
Now I wonder,,will he belatedly apologise. Then we can do a great flip flop clip of his statements today and his apology.
You know the words "I am truly sorry" are so easy to say. What is it with people. I always apologise before it is even necessary.
I do too, cajungirl.
Today I was at Wal Mart and realized that a minority couple was trailing behind me with their cart and muttering. They seemed angry and they seemed angry with me. So I thought about it and realized I may have stepped into the aisle and cut them off.
I approached them and said that my mind was elsewhere and if I cut them off stepping into the main aisle, I apologize. They were very angry at first but as I talked they just nodded and said "oh, that's okay. We've done that too."
See how easy it is? Maybe we should give a seminar in National Apologies for Democrats.
Right, But I want Kerry to keep blustering,,the more he blusters, the sillier he looks and the crazier Nancy Pelosi is.
Going to call it a night but with a huge smile on my face :-)
It was good to see you.
Keep talking Kerry, baby.
And, hey---why not get Terayza to help you out, and make a statement about the troops, too.
LOL.
