My old boss hired Roger Daltrey's Personal Assistant when she wanted to change industries from music to finance. She was as clear eyed and bright as woman as you would ever meet and she had nothing but good things to say about both of them.

According to her, they were both terribly down to earth and genuine people without a pretentious bone in their bodies.

"Unfortunately, the guy's also a pedophile."

Ohfercryinoutloud........he is not a pedophile, for God's sake. Anyone who even attempted to keep up with the news knows the whole story on that stupid, sordid little bit of press sensationalism. He was acquitted of any and all charges (and never broke a sweat during the process; innocence is its own best defense).

I never said he is guilty in terms of being found officially guilty. But I do think it's reasonable to question his claim. If he was doing "research", why was he doing it alone? If he was really interested in "research" in terms of how much damaging content was on the Internet, why not approach the authorities and volunteer to assist them in investigating what was out there?

Sorry, but I just find it a bit difficult to believe. Maybe he was only doing research, but I have my doubts...

The Who is playing the night before Thanksgiving in Atlanta. I desperately wanted to go - huge Who fan - and checked ticket prices. $200. Pete is a businessman.

My two teenage sons wanted to see The Who so I began investigating the tour and gulped at the prices. Then I discovered they were playing at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore. For the price of one Who concert, we got to see them as well as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Flaming Lips, the Drive-by Truckers, the Killers, the Raconteurs and a few others.

I have to say, The Who kicked ass. The crowd was a mix of geezers like me and youngsters like my sons, and we all sang along when Pete belted out "It's only teenage wasteland!" Some dads bond with their kids over a game at Yankee Stadium--we had our moment passing the crowd surfers over our heads. My 17-year-old has already downloaded the new Who album from the Internets; I will stop in Best Buy later today to get it the old-fashioned way.

IMO, Pete is the best songwriter of the rock and roll era.

Quadrophenia is a masterpiece.

Amazing that now our music is cooler than our kid's music.

The White City, that's a joke of a name
It's a black violent place if I remember the game
I couldn't wait to get out but I love to go home
To remember the White City fighting

The White City Fighting, remember, remember
The White City Fighting, remember, remember

Down to the refuge, near QPR
I drive to committees in my German car
Prone to violence, prone to shame
I glide in silence, my pride in vain
For no one remembers, not that I can see
That we were defenders, we were the free . . .

If you've ever sampled any of Entwistle's solo work you're in for an unexpected (and bizarre) treat as well.

"Talk Dirty" has one of the most incredible bass lines ever.

I once had a roommate who was a bassist, and he insisted that was not a bass.

"It's a lead guitar," he said repeatedly. He could not bring himslef to believe anyone could play such a complicated bass riff so fast.

That was from the album Joe Walsh played guitar on.

"But wait, isn't Townshend a convicted hemophiliac?"

IIRC, he's also a sexagenarian.

I'm 29 so I'm younger than the Who generation but older than the current generation of crap music that's out.

I like rock from about the late 60s to the early 90s...although anybody that knows me knows that the 80s were my favorite decade by far.
