The Who is playing the night before Thanksgiving in Atlanta. I desperately wanted to go - huge Who fan - and checked ticket prices. $200. Pete is a businessman.
My two teenage sons wanted to see The Who so I began investigating the tour and gulped at the prices. Then I discovered they were playing at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore. For the price of one Who concert, we got to see them as well as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Flaming Lips, the Drive-by Truckers, the Killers, the Raconteurs and a few others.
I have to say, The Who kicked ass. The crowd was a mix of geezers like me and youngsters like my sons, and we all sang along when Pete belted out "It's only teenage wasteland!" Some dads bond with their kids over a game at Yankee Stadium--we had our moment passing the crowd surfers over our heads. My 17-year-old has already downloaded the new Who album from the Internets; I will stop in Best Buy later today to get it the old-fashioned way.

Amazing that now our music is cooler than our kid's music.

About the only other band out of that list I would have wanted to see would have been Drive-By-Truckers. Flaming Lips? Most annoying band of the last fifteen years, IMHO.
