A similar case comes to mind -- child molesting pervert who made the movie Chinatown, the ultimate hymn to nihilism --- ROMAN POLANSKI (i knew the name would come to mind sooner or later!) was a survivor of Auschwitz, who took away from the experience a conviction that life is ultimately meaningless. (BTW -- assimilating Jews normally change their names. George's dad was an Esperantist, and the family name he adopted is the future tense of the Esperanto verb "to soar.")

ROMAN POLANSKI (i knew the name would come to mind sooner or later!) was a survivor of Auschwitz,Polanski was never in Auschwitz. His mother died there, but Roman, aged 10, escaped from the Krakow ghetto and made it to the countryside, where a Polish farmer hid him through the rest of the war, although he had to sleep in the barn.
