Former Prince George's County executive Wayne K. Curry, backed by five black members of the Prince George's County Council, today endorsed Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele's campaign for the U.S. Senate, at a 12:45 p.m. press conference. Mr. Curry, a Democrat who became the first black Prince George's county executive in 1994, and served two terms, is influential in Prince George's, the state's second-largest county, with about 846,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Council members David Harrington, Camille Exum, Samuel H. Dean, Marilynn M. Bland and Tony Knotts joined Mr. Curry in backing Mr. Steele, who is black. Prince George's is also 65 percent black, and is expected to play a key role in Maryland's Nov. 7 U.S. Senate race between Mr. Steele, who is from Prince George's, and Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, who is white and from Baltimore

Guess which country to which Curry will be the next ambassador?
Santorum is toast.
Steele has a chance (I see quite a few Steele signs in mostly black parts of Prince George's County) but it's still likely less than a 50%. He has a much better chance than Santorum, though.
wbal.com is talking about it right now!
Did you see this?!?!?!
$50 from Ohio last week. Darn, you are a good American and just made me look silly coming to the dance so late.
Alright, excuse me now but I got to at least get in the game. My neighbor is a PHd from Georgetown and his family hails from Granada. I want to tell him I gave to Steele and see how he reacts. Last neighbors meeting he commented how he liked Howard Dean to another neighbor.
This will be sweet.
My prediction is he'll win by about 4-6 points.
I think Steele will win. This endorsement helps.
Plus, I doubt Curry would stick out his neck if he didn't think Steele was doing pretty well.
You're probably right about Santorum.
keep us apprised, please..
A strng black vote for Steele might help Ehrlich. It is easier to vote a straight ticket than to split your ballot.
Every ten spot counts!
Ken Blackwell for governor of Ohio and Michael Steele are the only candidates (unless you count countywide offices) I contributed to.
Dear RobbyS,
"It is easier to vote a straight ticket than to split your ballot."
In terms of the mechanics of the ballot, in Maryland, it's just as easy to vote a split ticket as a straight ticket.

this is the second punch in this combination.
Well, maybe they finally have 'the eyes to see' which party is really the racist party.
The Dems made Steele's race an issue from the very beginning. Just maybe some minorities are finally wising up.
I hope you're right.
Of course you are right that every ten spot counts. But when the time came, I just couldn't plug in the 10 with the $25 box so near.
So I hit it for $25. :)
He's a darn good American and we need more like him. I'm pulling for Tom Kean Jr. here in NJ but the corrupt Hudson County machine may cancel out my efforts.
We'll see soon enough. I'll live vicariously via Maryland.
Ehlrich is surging back and I dont believe the polls that say he is behind,a Governor witb a approval ratings of more than 50% is not behind in the polls especially when his opponent is a Baltimore city mayor hack. Steele is doing quite well, he will win this senate election considering he will do well in the african american community.
I agree with you, this is good news. I believe the Times is off a little on the percentage of blacks in PG County. I think it is closer to 85-90 percent. This will put some wind in Steele's sails. I find it curious that when they talk about the competitive races across the nation, the rarely mention the Maryland race. It's like if they - MSM - do not mention it, it will just go away. If we lose PA, this will counter that.
Here are some quotes from today's endorsement!
Wayne Curry today said, "This is obviously a historic occasion and I am very happy to be a part of it. I grew up in Prince George's County. Michael Steele was born here
I am a lifelong Democrat and I am mindful that our emergence as a community has always come along with struggle and strife
this community has been seriously trivialized. We have been neglected, overlooked and disparaged in the sanctums of the Democratic Party
Prince George's County has been geographically redlined and stratified. It is the place where there is more Democratic voting than any other place in Maryland
"
"The (Democratic) party acts as though when they want our opinion they will give it to us. It's not going to be like that no more.
"This occasion is special for those who have sacrificed here. We don't need any TV celebrities to tell us about politics in Prince Georges County
this isn't the first time we have charged up a hill.
"The person to elect, who is most responsive to the things that will make our future brighter is Michael Steele
He is a good man with a good plan."
