Former Prince George's County executive Wayne K. Curry, backed by five black members of the Prince George's County Council, today endorsed Republican Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele's campaign for the U.S. Senate, at a 12:45 p.m. press conference. Mr. Curry, a Democrat who became the first black Prince George's county executive in 1994, and served two terms, is influential in Prince George's, the state's second-largest county, with about 846,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Council members David Harrington, Camille Exum, Samuel H. Dean, Marilynn M. Bland and Tony Knotts joined Mr. Curry in backing Mr. Steele, who is black. Prince George's is also 65 percent black, and is expected to play a key role in Maryland's Nov. 7 U.S. Senate race between Mr. Steele, who is from Prince George's, and Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, who is white and from Baltimore

Ping for The Man of Steele!!! ;-)
The ball is rolling!
I'm ready to pop the champaign and celebrate the Man of Steele's victory.
This is very good news indeed. Let's hope that Curry can influence a great number of voters.
Uh oh.....the Democrat Platation Mentality might be slipping!!!!
Good News!!!
Excellent news for Steele!
Dear milwguy,
Thiry percent of the black vote will seal Mr. Steele's election. Mr. Ehrlich won in 2002 with 22% of the black vote.

Cardin looked so bland and came off as ineffectual in the Meet the Press debate yesterday. I really don't see him being able to keep Steele from getting at least 25% of the black vote which will help Steele win. Cardin just seems like a pale and boring hack who will not inspire a big get out the vote on his behalf. And blacks will not be enthusiastic either.
Anyway, go to Steele's website and donate! He'll need money to get through the home stretch of the campaign.
Yeah, and we can thank our lucky stars that it isn't Wayne Curry running for US Senate in Maryland. Mr. Curry is a very unusual person.
But, if it helps Mr. Steele, so be it!
Woohoo!!! I called this on an earlier thread! This is HUUUUUUGE for Steele! Wayne Curry is probably the most popular black political figure in the state other than Steele himself. I hope Curry will cut some ads for Steele and actually do something to turn out the vote and not just give him a "name" endorsement -- it's too late to do anything with the latter.
I am hoping for 35-40% given it is an off year election and some southern Maryland whites may not vote for MR. Steele due to his race. Never hurts to be overly enthusiastic about his chances.
CHeck this out....One two punch! Cardin should be VERY frightened.

I wonder what it cost him? I saw this same thing on an show called the wire last week.
Seriously, if the Dems had enough brains they would have made sure Curry was their nominee - he would be beating Steele like a drum by now. But this just proves that the Maryland Democratic Party is still a Baltimore mob. Ben Cardin was their handpicked guy and they have blown it. PG County is tired of being treated like a baldheaded stepchild.
Ehrlich only got 13% of the Black vote last time. 30% seals the deal for Steele.
Prince George's gives the D's a huge vote advantage and this will effect that lead.
What are the Dems gonna do now?..call Wayne Curry an Uncle Tom too? LOL
