As part of an activism class, students at Solebury School, a private school near Philadelphia, were taken to an abortion clinic, donned vests worn by abortion staff, and helped to escort women into the building.
During the field trip students were not permitted to speak to pro-life demonstrators standing outside the building.
This is very, very disturbing, said Eileen Stone, a prayer service participant. These students are only seeing one side. Shouldnt they see another perspective? After all, education is about seeing the whole picture.
The teacher organizing the trip, Jason Gordon, said the students werent permitted to speak with the pro- life demonstrators because he did not want them to become involved in activism, denying that what they were doing was already a form of activism. He admitted that the children were not given both sides of the argument.
Which is exactly why we need to get the federal government out of education.
Private schools have the right to take children to a NAMBLA meeting, too.
Are you only sickened or angered by things that aren't legal?
Our strong belief in informality, diversity, and the importance of mutual respect between teacher and student helps build a strong community.
... We have bodies
Yes, it's apparent from their mission statement.
No.
My point is that you need to be careful with having government impose itself on private education. How would you like for the government to decide children can't say the pledge in private schools because it "sickens and angers" that idiot Michael Newdow. Private schools should remain private. Of course if they break the law, that's a different story.
Private schools bump
show me a post where someone said the gov't should get involved in this issue
Post 13 - I said
"Do you think the government should get involved?"
Post 20 - Tallent Replied
"The government is, and has been involved, by our tax dollars."
Perhaps I misinterpreted...
Nice area, almost moved there ten years ago, they have this ultra-cool island in the middle of the river with the remains of a house that a flood wrecked. Then I got to thinking about how fast nature can snatch things away.
Looks like they now have a school for that too. :(
But thanks for being so pleasant in your response to me, fellow freeper.
Balaced would have been visiting the Abortion Clinic and then visiting a Pro Life Counseling (clinic).
Too bad there weren't any counter-protestors present. In my experience, they've been nothing short of satanic. Pro-lifers tend to be very peaceful. This isn't the image usually painted by the media.
I love school mission statements. They're usually good for a laugh. It's rare that you'll find one that isn't self-contradictory.
They could have helped women get abortions and then put dogs to sleep. But they wouldn't do the latter because it would upset them.

Obviously this is a school for well-off "red diaper babies." This is the sort of "field trip" the students' parents would have expected; I'm sure they approve.
It's a shame that politicians won't address abortion, simply on a political level. The pro-abortion position can't withstand the light of day. A simple rhetorical question like, "Why should people have the right to kill their children?" repeated ad nauseum, could do wonders for a campaign, and people's consciences.
Were the students allowed to hold the babies?
On the other hand, the political affiliation of one's parents is generally the most significant factor in one's own political tendencies. And, of course, liberals are much more likely to abort their babies than conservatives. This means that since Roe, 40mm potential liberal voters have been deleted from the electorate.
You live in the PACIFIC NORTHWEST and you expect anything else?!
