An interesting ping...
Even though it's Zogby (big caveat), I kind of suspected that something's been going on with the NRCC spending nearly $1.6 million in the past month on this seat and having Bush come into the CD on Monday or Tuesday. You don't do that for no reason.
I have been working at a volunteer and the response has been very positive.
Republicans are quite capable of taking the time to write in a candidate, when that candidate is their Party's representive.
Moreover, there is a 'special election' selection that has her name on it to finish up Tom Delay's seat.
That allows the voter to see her as the GOP candidate.
As for third Party candidates, I do not think they will be a factor.
I will be at the Presidents rally tomorrow.
We are going to hold both Houses of Congress because the GOP is supported at the grassroots level.
Every time the Dems have counted on Texas for anything, disaster has generally been the result.
I have one thing to say to Nick Lampson and his ilk: DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!
Don't forget to vote before leaving on your trip. Your daughter too!
Can't people take a piece of paper with her name written on it so all they have to do is copy it down. That does not seem to difficult if that is allowed. I think that people are making too much out of having to write her name down. I could see if difficult if you are unable to take papers in the voting booth with you, but it is not like its an exam. lol.
This is a surprise only to the RATS and MSM.
Democrats are so despised in Texas, it is quite funny that they thought they would win Delays seat, a conservative seat in a conservative state.
It will be quite fun to see demRATS dispppointed on elections, when they fail to realise their hopes of capturing control of congress.
This is your #1 most likely to lose seat-- maybe we can pull it off.
I have lived in both TX 9 and TX 22, and beleive me, I don't think the voters in 22 have any inkling of how liberal Lampson is. If he does win, it'll be one term.
If she wins, it will be due in part to Governor Rick Perry. He scheduled a special election for Delay's old seat concurrent with the general election. Sekula-Gibb's name is on the special election -- and I think it is right next to the general election which requires a write-in. Those that forgot to bring in that sheet of paper will have her name spelled properly within sight of the write-in slot.
A small thing? Yes -- but this will be a battle of inches.
The latest Zogby poll puts Lampson up by 8 but there is a huge undecided figure - 25%. If Sekula-Gibbs can attract most of those, and if they can handle the write-in process without screwing up, then she can win. But she's bucking history, the list of successful write-in candidates is very sparce. Almost anything can invalidate their ballot.
Do votes for Delay count for Ms Gibbs?
Question: who gets the votes for TOM DELAY, if a voter clicks "tom delay" on the ballot?
That would be hilarious.
The NRA is endorsing Lampson in this race btw. Sekula-Gibbs is an anti-smoking Nazi and has been ineffective on Houston City Council. I'm confused.
Lampson is NOT a happy camper. He knows he'll lose.
Does spelling count for write-ins?
This has been #1 on the RealClearPolitics Dem pickup list. Maybe they need to revisit their thinking.
Yes, huge, but, even if we win, I won't forgive Delay for putting this seat in jeopardy.
Vote Twice For Shelley!
