Write-in Could Win Delay's Spot, Poll Finds.
Houston Chronicle ^ | 10-29-2006 | Doug Miller

On Monday President Bush flies into Houston to campaign for a congressional candidate who — at one point — looked like a long shot.

But an exclusive poll indicates that Shelley Sekula-Gibbs may pull off a political upset and win her write-in campaign for Congress.

Your logic is that we ought to lose battles so we can win the war.

You win wars by winning battles.

Nothing is gained by putting the Democrats in power except to embolden them and their MSM allies.

It will be a reflection on Bush.

Don't worry about 2008.

We need to win in 2006 first.

A victory here would be welcomed, helpful, and awesome! :-) Even if she is a smoke nazi who wants to tell business owners what they can or cannot do with their property? Wow.

Lets see, Sekula-Gibbs or Pelosi?

A very hard choice indeed.

But if my fellow citizens don't want it that way, it's fine with me. Sekula -Gibbs didn't "put it to the people". She pushed it through city council. She is a nanny-statist.

And Lampson is...?

If she doesn't vote conservative in the House, we have a primary to remove her.

But the seat will stay GOP.

She is a poor replacement for "The Hammer" Tom Delay.

She is far better then Lampson.

She knows she will represent a conservative district and her votes will be watched.

Well, I don't live in that district and will be voting for Culberson (R). I have friends that live in Tom Delay's former district and they are spitting mad over the partys treatment of him and the smoke filled room that told the mayor to stay out of this race

David Wallace did the right thing.

Voters will not forget it.

I am sure other offices will be available in the future.

If SSG doesn't measure up, he might run against her in the primary.

Your friends, however, are doing exactly the opposite of what Wallace recommends, supporting the main Republican candidate, the one who can win.

I can barely use a cell phone and I managed it.

People are going out of their way to ask how to use it.

The one thing the Polls and the MSM always seem to underestimate is the desire of the average American to do the right thing.

The GOP is the party of the grassroots now and it has been the grassroots that have winning victories that no one said was going to happen, starting with Congress in 94 and then going to Bush in 2000.

Every election after that we were suppose to lose, but the Democrats do not have grassroots support, they only have media support.

How many people live in Sugar Land now? I haven't been there since 1985. I don't know the current population, but I DO know that it's a @ell of a lot bigger than it was in 1985. Probably only the old neighborhood down by the sugar mill would be recognizable to you.

I'm curious what are you basing this 18 seat defeat on?

I see you were unable to give me an answer regarding your expertise on why you say the GOP will lose 18 seats.
Hence I will assume its either wishful thinking on your part, or you offer your opinion based on MSM hype. Either way, it speaks to your credibility. I can't help but notice many on FR who are predicting doom & gloom never actually give viable reasons for their pessimistic views or they respond with an angry laundry list of how the RINOs (& Bush) have let them down. Its frustrating.

"I will not second guess the commission's criteria before the election and risk giving bad advice that later invalidates the vote"

Of course we all know that if Gibbs were a Democrat Write in, an X would be acceptable.

Go to the Texas Secretary of State website, and the ballots and accepted "write-ins" are listed in a tab somewhere in there...

I can tell you what I recall seeing when I went and early voted last week...

Don Richardson

Shelley Sekula Gibbs

_ _ _ _ Reasback (sp?) (this guy has been talked about here in FR on the Texas board...)

The list is supposed to be posted in "each" voting booth...The names are all in very small (or regular) sized fonts on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper...

I believe the sheet has a few (depending on your district) other races that have write-in's...I think there may be a state judge on there as well...IIRC...

For the most part, it doesn't really take any longer to vote for a write-in, than it does to look over the summary page to make sure you get a chance to review what you did...

Nothing is set in stone untill you press that "Cast Ballot" button...So it is a good thing to check and make sure you do the "Special Election", then run through the rest of the ballot, and all those judges...Make sure you get to the Propositions (if applicable to your address, if you live in the city etc etc)...

I obviously can't tell people what to do while in the booth, but I chose NOT to vote a straight party ticket because I wanted to make sure I ticked a vote for every "R" I could see...

Its a vote of affirmation for the most part, and plus, I didn't want to get caught up in some glitch in the system and somehow not get a chance to hit all those Propositions...

I do have the highest confidence in the system, but I'd rather be the dominant factor, and not let a software program assume what I am doing, just to speed things up...

It's a methodical and tedious way to do it, but I figure its worth mine and anyone elses time...

Good luck, and thank you for participating in the election this year...

There will be free flu shots given out on election day? At the voting polls? NO WAY?

That's what the article says.......

Apparently there is a 'Vote and Vax' program that has been ongoing for a few years and is expanding each election...

Vote and get your freebies too......

Not the home of Imperial Sugar any longer. After a hundred and fifty years the plant closed and oddly enough the property was quickly bought, along with some state land next door, by a new group headed by our local mayor. They want to build high end condo's. It stinks.

Oh and the guy wants to run for Congress too - Mayor David Wallace.

"The National Right to Life newsletter says Ms Gibbs is pro life and they endorse her."

I just heard a political spot on a local talk radio station in Houston (KPRC AM 950) funded by the National Right to Life PAC. The radio spot slammed Nick Lampson's pro-abortion positions opposing parental notification and supporting transportation of minors across state lines for an abortion. The ad finished with a recitation of Sekula-Gibbs' strong pro-life positions. NRL obviously thinks she can win this race and is willing to contribute to her campaign. Go Shelley!

>>Strom Thurmond was able to do it. Albeit back in his dixiecrat days.

Linda Smith won her Congressional seat as a Republican, write-in candidate in Washington state. If it was done in Democrat-leaning district in SW Washington, it can be done in a Republican-leaning district in Texas.

"What do you think the net change in the house will be"

I don't have a clue, I never pay attention to polls & experts. Its my way of protesting the so called "power" of the press.
My hope is that we retain the majority & maybe even pick up a few surprise seats like Steele in MD and Blackwell in Ohio ~ Blackwell is running for GOV of Ohio he would be the first Black Gov in our state & he is a GOP :)
